George mcfc brown
Hi every one I'm new to this site/forum I just bought a 2006plate focus 1.8tdci and there is a lot of vibration mainly in gear 1-2 and the vibration is not as bad when I dip the clutch. The car has done a lot of mileage and is due a service but what could making it sound so loud and vibrate like it is. Thank you in advance
stef123
sounds like the DMF - dual mass flywheel. very expensive part to replace
Stoney871
The 1.8 doesn't have DMF. I'd get the gearbox mount checked.

Stoney871
Not the 1.8. Only the 1.6/2.
stef123
Not the 1.8. Only the 1.6/2.0 are you thinking about the right thing mate? DMF not DPF... the 1.8 will have a DMF, also just double checked this with 2 1.8tdci's i know the reg of and its showing only a DMF I would be very suprised if a modern diesel didnt have a DMF to the OP, when a DMF begins to wear/break up it will become noisy and will vibrate, your symptoms seem to fit this. Stoney871
As far as I'm aware only the Peugeot Citroen engines have DMF. The 1.8 is a upgraded old fashioned 8 valve Ford engine and I have been advised by Police mechanics it does not have DMF or DPF. It only has to suffer an EGR but not for long when I get a chance to get it bypassed.

Would be really suprised at a tdci not having a dmf tbh. the 1.8, is it not a volvo engine really?

The Volvo engines are the 5 cylinder ones used in the ST's

Mondyghiax
Im a ford tech and the 1.8 diesels do have dmf's and is more than likely your vibration problem.
