V12
As a start you should check your cable linkages of the shifting mechanism. There are two cables running into a plastic box in front of the gear box. Open the plastic cover of it and you will see the two ball joints of the shifting rods. Check if there is abnormal wear and tear at the end of the cables. It`s also a good idea to check for oil leaks and check the oil level of the transmission. The fill and drain plugs are inside of that plastic box to the left of the cable shifting mechanism. Marked in red you can see the drain plug which has magnet on it and in yellow the fill plug. Next to them are the the shifting cables, which you have to check. http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=13820&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1199589273 If the cable linkages are all right you can try changing the transmission oil. Use good grade 75W-80. Cheers!
stef123
as above, check the linkages and change the gear oil if they appear to be ok
artscot79
agree with the above the box is generally good as a last resort it could be the clutch on its way out
poshpawsfiesta
agree with the above the box is generally good as a last resort it could be the clutch on its way out cheers for you help guys took the car back to ford and they 'heavly greased the gear selctor' but hasnt really solved the problem, it has been driven by some one who is mechanicly minded and they think it might be the clutch pressure plate (whatever that is) so hopefully that will be covered by the warrenty but they say you might as well have the clutch replaced whilst the gearbox is all out etc what are your thoughts? thanks josh

If its a duel mass type, it will need replacing too.
stef123
what engine have you got? if its a diesel, then if you intend on keeping the car for a long time then i would spend the money now and have it done then you shouldnt need to worry about it later. even if there does appear to be nothing wrong with it - just my personal opinion though, you dont need to.
