Where is thermostate on mk1 1.6 16v zetec engine, is it on side under coil pack or on front under alternator

on mine it was behind the alternator

these days they are in plastic holders which are usually black for some reason

They dont look easy to remove.

Infact some cars now have an electronic thermostat that is controlled by the ecu on cold start and hot flow conditions
