Moving Address

Has anyone here moved address and needed to move their cars etc to a new property. Do you really need to update your drivers license as well?

I have just changed address, not bothered changing the logbooks on the car and bikes yet, but I changed my driving licence straight away as I use it as ID a lot. I'm sure you can be fined for not updating your driving licence.

Well my passport has my new address on so I can use this as ID if needed and have my bank details at the new address.

I don't have my paper license so this will likely cause problems if I was to update the address and also cost me for a new one.

Yes it would mean having to pay to change it, rather than the free change, but you do risk getting fined if you don't update the address on your driving licence within a fair amount of time. Personally I would rather pay the £20 or whatever it is by you.

agreed, you should ideally change everything over to your new address, and in the interim period, set up a mail forward with Royal Mail to ensure you get your post in the interim period.

The fine's can be quite hefty so you dont want to risk it. The logbook's ideally should be updated, as it could be seen to be fraudulent, if you try to sell on a car under a false address... it could cause you no end of hassle!

Well the thing is my mother still owns the property. She just plans to rent it out and we still have access to the property and plan to setup mail forwarding to the other address anyway. But as we don't "Live" at the address probably is best to change it.

I'll have a dig around see if I can find my paper copy anywhere. sadly I don't want to go without my ID for a few weeks :P I'll sort it out at a later date when I can go without having it.

You need to get it sorted. The penalty for not changing your address is a fine of up to £1000.

Sod's law says that the time you are most likely to get pulled and need produce your licence is while it's incorrect!!

If you cannot find your licence or the paper part, you will need to apply for a replacement licence too. I think you can do this at the same time as changing your address but it's probably worth a phone call to DVLA to check.
