hi, my st170 has just developed bit of a problem. i think the clutch is on its way out, but me, not knowing anything about cars, thought i better check with some people that do.

the other day i was pulling out of a busy junction, so i gave it some revs and let the clutch out whilst in 1st gear and tried to pull out into a smallish gap in the traffic, which normally wouldnt be a problem, but ended up accelerating out the junction ridiculously slow with the rev counter practically on the redline, resulting in bit of a burning smell and lots of light flashing and finger gesturing from the guy who nearly ran into the back of me

if it is the clutch, does anyone have any idea how much it might cost, or is there any upgraded clutch i could get that doesnt cost the earth??

thanks

does sound very much like the clutch slipping. has you noticed any difference with the clutch recently? the burning smell you experienced does definetly point at the clutch.
cant say for sure but i would reckon 400-500 quid?
you would be best to phone a clutch specialist and ask them about uprated parts.

im sure someone with more experience can help you some more.

hi, i had this problem not to long ago. had you been drivin the car quite hard before the problem? i've been told that the problem is caused by old brake fluid, as it also supplies the clutch. try renewing the fluids and bleeding it all through. i've havn't had chance to do it on mine yet but will be soon. i've now noticed that if i lift the clutch slowly it makes a whining noise think my clutch may be on its way out.
