2009/58 Zetec S - Alarm Keeps Going Off!

Any ideas what could be causing this?

It started Friday evening - have had the car almost a year and this is the first time I've ever heard the alarm!

Since then, its going off 3/4 times a day. I think its annoying my neighbours now, its sure as hell annoying me.

I've no idea what is causing it, doors are locked securely and nobody around it when it goes off.

Cheers

Check and oil door, bonnet and boot switches.

One of them is probably sticking and making the alarm think one of them has been tripped, most likely the bonnet one as the others would leave the courtesy light on and show on the dash screen.

Ok...you're talking to a blonde here and I've no idea what switches you're talking about!

Are they easy to find/locate?

About 6/7 weeks ago, my bonnet wouldn't shut properly. I know my other half had to fiddle with it to get it to shut again. He did say the catch/boot release switch under the steering wheel had jammed. He managed to pop it back into place but it hasn't been touched since then. Wonder if this is anything to do with it.!

The switch will usually be part of the bonnet catch, a spring loaded pin that sticks up.

Once you find it spray it liberally with WD40 and work the pin up and down a few times to ensure its moving freely.

I had my bonnet release apart last week as my cable had jammed.

Knowing what a nightmare it is to change a snapped cable on the S-Max/Mondeo platform, I took no chances and removed the whole mechanism for a clean and lubricate.

I also poured oil down the cable and packed the end with thick grease to prevent further water ingress.

I would advise anyone with bonnet open/close problems to do the same.

I noticed that the 'bonnet open' switch is a tiny microswitch operated by a lever that depresses the switch when the bonnet is closed (not the regular push pin type as found on most other cars).

I would check that the switch electrical connector has been correctly refitted and if necessary remove the mechanism to check that the switch is being depressed correctly when the bonnet latch is in the closed position.

Finally I would check for electrical continuity within the switch when it is depressed.

I've been having the same problem and it occurs AFTER my car tells me my bonnet is open, when it is clearly not. My dealer have said they will change the bonnet latch.

I think it's a design flaw with the bonnet sensor power plug facing in such a way as rain/washing water can get at it and short it.

Tried getting it off to WD40 it, but it wont come fully off

Had the same problem - was a faulty bonnet catch/switch assembly. Got mine done under warranty during a service, but I guess you might have just gone past 3 years?

Extended dealers warranty will cover repairs and they already orderd the part ;)

it's just the friggin hassle of having to leave it with them A WHOLE DAY and having NO CAR for that time for surely what would be a half hour job?

Sprayed bonnet catch with WD40, went quiet for a couple of weeks but its back.

Car alarm goes off approx 15 minutes after I've locked it and dash shows bonnet open warning permanently.

I rang ford who told me they couldn't do it on a Saturday as they can't do diagnostics at the weekend. Unfortunately for me, I work away during the week in various places and only home at the weekend.

I know I'm going to have to get this fixed, any idea how much this will cost if it is a faulty switch?

Don't do diagnostics on a Saturday?

What is this 1913 when people don't work weekends?!?!?!

I know, unbelievable isn't it.

Saturday is apparently their busiest day and it can't be taken up with diagnostics. From what I've read, it's the !Removed! switch which is faulty. Surely it wouldn't take long to work it out?

bonnet switch is the most common reason for alarms going off, diasgnostic will show whats triggered last 5 alarms.

switch can be disconnected, from memory, think you have to wire the terminals together to fool alarm that bonnet is closed, till you get switch repaired/replaced

Hello All

Having the exact same issues with my Fiesta Zetec S

did you ever get this sorted Fletchie?

Can you confirm it is the bonnet catch/switch.

My alarm randomly goes off 5 or 10 mins after parking it up. Normally with just the hazards flashing and no noise, I also sometimes get bonnet open on the dash screen.

any help greatly received!!

Hey guys, I have a very similar problem. Have fiesta zetec s for 4 years and only very recently alarm started going off, all night and day every hour. Have to unlock the car and lock it up for it to stop out my window. It’s getting very annoying for everyone. Sometimes when I drive little message on the screen pops up saying my boot is opened, when I know for sure it’s locked. It got to the point now where alarm noise is wearing off and it’s not a very loud sound but seems like it’s running low on energy lol and yesterday car struggled to start. Worried it might kill my new battery (bought last year). Hopefully going back to mechanics today/tomorrow. Last time he thought he fixed it, but a week later it started going off again. Ford dealership wanted to charge me £96 just for diagnosis...fear to think what total will be! But might have to suck it up and go for the actual dealership rather than a random mechanic, if till not fixed. Is there an easy way to disconnect it for now? Or sort it out at home? I can’t even leave it unlocked cos the car automatically locks itself! 🙄😑

Thanks

I have the same issue. I thought it was the boot switch so had a new one put in Wednesday and today the alarms going off again. So I’m going to try and get the bonnet switched done too. If warranty won’t cover it is there an easier option to fix this? Short of disconnecting the alarm full stop.

I've got a very similar problem, although having read through the other posts here, I don't think its a boot latch or bonnet latch problem as I don't get any messages on the dash whilst driving and no internal lights come on either.

All I've currently got is disgruntled neighbours being woke up at 1am!

Spoke to a diagnostic bloke today (suggested by my local repairs garage) and he said the diagnostics wont bring up anything about the alarms being tripped - Which seem the opposite to what someone has written above... So, no idea where to go with this now.

Ive had the car 5 years and its been ace until the last month or so when this has started happening.

Its just so sporadic, though.... Sometimes the alarm goes off within an hour of me parking it on the drive, sometimes its 12 hours... Sometimes it goes off twice in that time. The week before last the alarm didn't go off all week, and so far since Saturday morning its gone off 5 or 6 times...

Help!!

Maybe I should just figure out how to turn the ***** thing off completely?

Hi. I'm experiencing the same at the moment. It started off with warning messages on the dashboard either saying boot or doors were open when they were closed. Now the alarms getting triggered at random times throughout the day (actually most at night annoyingly).

Had a service on it yesterday and the garage couldn't work it out. Tempted to take it in to a Ford Dealership.

Appreciate any help you can give.

Most common problem on your model is the switch on the bonnet latch fails.

You can use FORScan and look to see what has triggered the alarm the last few times.
