They're not cheap and rare as hens teeth for some reason.

As i said, not cheap but it's a really nifty upgrade.
To connect it properly you'll need about 1 metre of 5 amp cable, a t-tap or scotchlock and a small crimp bayonet connector (the size usually used for car speakers, about 4mm).
Just run the cable from the bayonet connector on the ambient light circuit to a wire on the headlight control unit (number plate light switching pin 16 on a Focus 2/2.5).

I wouldn't mind doing this upgrade, anybody know how much it would be from ford or roughly from a breakers. I haven't seen any on auction sites lately.
