Lloyday
Hey everyone, I have come across a problem with my car which has only just been happening fairly recently and I can't put my finger on it. Intermittently there is a squeaking coming from the engine bay, at first I thought it was the wheel bearing as it sounded like a worn bearing but then I realised that it would happen when the wheels were barely moving, and is only apparent at low speeds, Engine/Wheel speed. First and second gear. Today parked up at mcdonalds I decided to rev the engine slightly, at about 2-2.5K rpm the squeaking starts but immediately stops at 3K or if it drops to 1.5K, Listening closely, it IS directly coupled to the engine speed. So I was thinking maybe it could be the cam belt, but I doubt this as the engine was rebuilt in April when I had the car, Including new cam belt. (old engine went kaput), Any suggestions? I'll add a video of the squeaking tomorrow for you mechanics to listen to :) Need to find out what this is before it gets worse and possibly damages the engine. For the imaginative sort: It sounds like a dry bearing.
Stoney871
Have a listen around the engine bay particularly around the water pump. If it sounds like bearings then its likely it is.
Bladerunner
Hi Lloyday, it must be Engine or ancillary issue, water pump is one possibility as well as alternator or it's drive belt or worn pulley. I identified correctly on my F iesta tdci a worn bearing on the cam belt bottom pully, at only 8,500 miles. Some times the engine fan can also have bearing issues, other than that and without listening to the engine that's all I can help with.
