Had a 52 reg corsa before my focus. MOT times are much happier these days. My mum's 95 polo has never failed an MOT yet! Just shy of 100,000 miles!

I think if you keep on top of your routine maintenance you should have no problems.

Any problems should be picked up early by a competent mechanic, before they have a chance to become expensive or a failure. Of course not all of us act on that advice...

Regular oil & filter changes etc will help keep the engine running properly, which will help the emissions readings.

And it's easy to identify when brakes and tyres need changing.

My Focus was recently serviced by Ford, and they described it as "in excellent condition" and "a lovely drive", so I anticipate no problems when my MOT is due in November.

The car is only 6 yrs old, but it always a relief to hear that. The time & effort I spent in choosing the right car has certainly paid off (with due thanks to the forum for giving me great advice!)

Brakes and tyres are on my radar, they're still OK but coming to the end of their life so will be replaced before the test.

cant argue my passat passed twice the seat twice before it was changed mk1 focus passed 3 as well this ones passed 2 none of them failed so 9years happy

had a debate with the tester though my extreme white sidelights had to come out as they were blue but only blue glass the light itself is bright white he wouldnt pass it with them on i argued they were road legal that only if the light was blue were they a fail end of the day 2 minutes it took to swap them over to standard
