He wont be back till next Monday... so fingers crossed it will be ok till then and i'll give him a call... he seems to have a good reputation, so hopefully he will get it sorted for us. Spoken to the warrenty company who said it sounds more like a wear and tear issue, and they would only fix in the event of a mechanical breakdown. Cant seem to get hold of the garage we purchased it from, although he doesnt seem to want to help anyway! Spoke to trading standards. They said if the problems are age/mile related, then there isnt too much we can do. However its the garages responsibility to do a burn of proof? basically a report to evidence that the fault IS age/mile related. NorthSussex Posted August 28, 2012 Share Posted August 28, 2012 If the car is not fit for purpose the you are entitled to return it and get a full refund, a good leverage option if the garage is uncooperative is to park the car outside of the garage with a big sign in the windscreen stating the problem; phone the local paper,lock it up and walk away. He wont cover any expenses till the problem is diagnosed, even then he may not do. He's basically saying the same as the warrenty company, that its running fine, so its not his problem. They will do what they want anyway because they know nothing will come out of it. I would still suggest you have the oil pressure tested though mate, for your own peace of mind of nothing else. Also i have unplugged the pressure switch, I was told if unplugged and the light still flashed then it would be a wiring problem. So will give it a day or two, if no light then plug the switch back in, if still no light im guessing too much oil was the cause... failing that will just have to get the pressure tested. You hadn't mentioned before, but as you have already started to spend money on the car I guess you must have been aware when you bought it that it wasn't in A1 condition, it sounds like the warranty was not worth the paper it was written on, put that purchase down to experience and don't get caught by a rogue car dealer next time. Normally the oil light coming on indicates low oil pressure, so be sure to get the oil problem checked out before more possible damage to the engine is caused from having an lubrication issue. Test drove fine, hes refusing to do anything, and since i use the car for work (courier) i had to get things done. But buying the car took our budget. The stuff i did today made no difference, so tomorrow will try and get the pressure tested and see what happens :( kinda wishing we hadnt bothered now, last car we got we ended up with endless problems and really messed us up financially. can see this doing the same! NorthSussex Posted August 28, 2012 Share Posted August 28, 2012 It's a shame that you have been let down by a local car dealer, sometimes cars at that price have been part exchanged at another garage because of there age and problems, these cars are then passed on through the trade to other dealers who specialise in low price cars, I part exchanged my 1999 Mondeo for £600 it had a string of faults but the garage wasn't interested in the faults as it would be sold from a low price dealers car lot, it wouldn't have been economical for the garage to correct all the faults so the buyer gets lumbered in sorting it out. At the price you paid for the car you may have been better off buying privately. I hope you get it sorted without too much expense. Good luck. The first test showed it wasnt losing pressure, so they put on another switch (black one not green), then test drove it and the light again came on. They then did another pressure test with the engine hot and found it did lose pressure very suddenly. So they did an oil/filter change and engine flush and still not sorted. They now say the next option would be the oil pump which will be around £300-£350... kinda feel like giving up now and scrapping the damn thing :( the work today cost £112. We dont think its wiring due to the fact it only flashes when hot, and more so when accellerating etc. Does the pump come with the pressure release valve? dont want to spend out that much money to then still have the problem! Wayney Posted August 29, 2012 Author Share Posted August 29, 2012 yeah thats a bargain! shame our local stores are out of stock though... grrr! will call tomorrow, see if they know what kind of times they get delivered... thanks :) the garage who quoted today was £80 for the part, then 3 and a half hours at £52 an hour... going to call a mobile guy who did my cambelt, he charges £35, then £45 for the pump makes it not quite so painful... bad enough though lol... Bought from a dealer, a couple of weeks later an electrical fault developed. Was an intermittent one and although it didn't stop the car is boiled the battery. Rang the dealer up he basically laughed at me and said if it starts drives and stops its not his issue. Hope the pump will sort it for you fella.
