Hey guys, I'm a little bored of my red lights on the dash and would like blue :P

So, how do I go about changing all the red bits to being blue? Speedo, light panel on right, radio panel, radio display and the air-con stuff?

Thanks :P

How good are your soldering skills?

You are also going to need a lot of SMD LEDs, a lot of time and a good knowledge of dismantling your interior.

Mainly just need the info on dismantling the interior, I can get SMD's once I know how many approximately there are, and soldering skills are decent enough, quite handy with a soldering iron :P

I test drove the new Focus with blue illumination and didn't like it.

It may look 'cool' but at night it is not easy on the eye and totally screws with your night vision.

I guess like everything in time you would get used to it - each to their own, but I would make sure to incorporate a dimmer circuit as blue LEDs often appear much brighter than Red.

I would remove a few switches and replace those LEDs first to see if it's what you really want before hacking the instruments apart.

Yeah might be a good plan, I really want to install a dimmer, surprising the car didn't come with a dimmer as sometimes the lights can be a little bright in the cabin.

there was a company who did a full blue instal for £230 but the company has closed down. i know the person now works for another car company but unsure who. im sure a bit of google research would come up with a number easy enough tho

Yeah I head of a place near me that used to do it, but they say they've not done it in a while since the guy who specialised in the kind of thing left >_>

On a side-note, any way of installing a dimmer switch?

The interior lights get their power from the light switch so it should be straight forward to install a potentiometer here as I don't think there is a dimming version of the Fiesta switch.

The S-Max has an identical switch (with dimming), but this switch is CAN-BUS and so only has 4 connections - so no good for Fiesta but I wonder if the switches could somehow be combined with a few modifications to the circuit board.

US version has a dimmer switch in it right next to the headlight unit toggle, need to have a see on a US forum I think and see if there's any info :P

yeah, i've also heard of a few people/companies that would do this, but it was around the £230-270 mark, mostly because of the labour time, but yeah, just as it stands, there isn't really many diagrams set out or accessable for companies or people to get it down to a t quicktime, like older cars e.g i used to own a Corsa C and it became pretty cheap to get done with singular units (light toggle, heater unit, displays, and such) being able to send them away and get it done cheap.. but in you're own case if you wanted to try it, it'd be a case of get the soldering iron out, and not quite trial and error, but making sure you dont miss any, which can be annoyingly tricky with these things! as for the dimmer switch.. not sure on how easy that would be, if all the lights are run off a easy enough circuit then shouldn't be too hard, but... as with life nothings ever that easy! haha
