Hid's For Mk2.5

Hiya folks,

I've got some aftermarket bulbs at the moment but more and more I'm seeing HID kits on cars and I think they look great.

So, with this in mind, I quite fancy getting some for my 2009 Focus Zetec S, but have a few questions:

1) What kits will be of decent quality? there are thousands on eBay but I have no idea which are best?!?!

2) Would I have to get seperate kits for the dipped and main beam?

3) Is there a way in which I could revert back to standard bulbs (for MOT time, as I am told HID kits are a fail on the test)

4) Am I best getting somewhere to do the fitting for me? I'm no good with the technical side of things.

Also if anyone has any pictures, feel free to post. Just trying to get some info, MOT is due soon so will be getting that out of the way first before getting a kit fitted.

I had some on my previous car and got them fitted by an auto electrician. The ones i got were from Turbo-Revs and came with a 2 year guarantee. You only need the one kit for the main beam as far as i remember and there was no way of changing back to OEM bulbs, things maybe different now?

just remember its not just at the mot the traffic police are well up on the rules and regs so if you get stopped at night they will not allow you to drive with illegal lights round my way im seeing them get pulled daily now to be frank its not worth the expense and hassle. and should you have an accident youre in big trouble especially if its youre fault

an interesting read may explain why i get blinded on the back roads department of transport states h.i.d kits are not legal to fit or sell and that if you want h.i.ds they must be complete units designed for the vehicle

Serious HID kits in non-projector headlight cars are a bad idea!

The way a filament bulb reflects in the housing is different to the way these HID Kit bulbs do. So unless you have made for HID lights I wouldn't fit them. Add to that the more than likely chance of getting pulled over AND everyone flashing you coming the other way cause you are blinding them. It soon becomes more agro than it is worth.

I have fitted them in the past and the light quality is like night and day! A HID light really is like those police helicopter flood lights.

I guess the only decent way of improving the lighting dramatically would be to find some Focus ST/RS Xenon Headlight Units.

at 400- 500 for a set of headlights mate ide just buy better bulbs i cant say its worth it at that kind of money in all honesty thats 500 for something more usefull . Once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have "self-levelling suspension" and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam.

so you also have the levelling to do and then fit the washers i the bumper is it really worth it when decent bulbs do a similar job
