Hi all,
My 05 petrol 1.8lx mondeo has reported a fault with the EGR valve. At this stage it hasn't effected performance in any way. My local dealer charged me £36 to clear the code, and said it needed replacing at a cost of £215 less vat!
Having done some basic google searches, lots of people on other cars seem to suggest that it can be cleaned with carb cleaner. Is this true? I am quite practical, so if there is a way to try and prolong the life of the valve at the cost of a sunday afternoons work, so carb cleaner and a new gasket, then I am up for it.
Has anyone done this? is this ok to do? will the carb cleaner damage the sensor in the valve?
any help/advice would be most welcome.
thanks,
rm
p.s. almost forgot...is there a way to clear engine codes if it reappears without taking it to the garage?
