Mondeo Lx 2.0 Tdci - 140K Miles - Clutch & Belt Costs

Hi,

I am looking at a 05 Mondeo LX 2.0 tdci with 140k miles. This is older / higher mileage than I was searching for.

I understand that the clutch requires replacement, how many hours does this take? Can any mechanic complete this on the Mondeo, and how much should be expected to pay for this parts and labour at an independent?

Due to the high mileage is there any items that I should specifically check? Does a timing belt require replacement at this time?

In general how is reliability on older higher mileage Mondeo?

unless it's already been done, it may be worth doing the DMF (dual mass flywheel) while you're in there. If it's starting to die of course.

When I did my DMF and clutch it was about 9 hours work between two of us in a well equipped home garage, I can't imagine it'd be all that much quicker at a dealer.

I was quoted over £1000 for the clutch and DMF fitted by a Ford dealer. I did it myself and parts alone were £520.

The timing chain should be checked for play and wear, but they tend to last.

Check when the bigger auxiliary belt (alternator side of the engine) was done if applicable, The original tensioners and bottom pulleys ended up being uprated later in life, so they may be coming towards the end of their life if they haven't already been replaced.

The DMF is an absolute must to replace with the clutch. It's cheaper for the 5sp as opposed to the 6sp. you're not likely to get much change out of £600 and £700 respectively. Unfortunately this is pretty much the standard price for all modern diesels nowdays.
