Bluetooth, Voice, Usb Module Connector Issues

Hi all, I hope someone can help me with this.

We have an 09 Fiesta Titanium, and recently the Bluetooth/voice/usb module stopped working. I managed to get hold of a second hand module, but I notice that the usb plug in the new module is of the mini usb type, whereas the plug in the old module looked more like a narrow usb A.

My question is, is there an adapter available that will enable the older 09 usb cable in the car to plug into the mini usb of the new module?

To me, it seems crazy that there wouldn't be, but not knowing the name of the type of connector in the car, searching the internet is like looking for a needle in a haystack! I just know that one end needs to have a male mini usb.

Hi,

Your old USB BT module would have had part no 8M5T-19C112-AM? (i have this part ready to retro fit into my 08 Focus)

The replacement module should have the same part number but the last two letters at the end will be different (indicating the newer revision) - 8M5T-19C112-AR (AS) etc.

After the '-AM' version they introduced the mini USB connector. You should find that the cable used to connect to the module to the USB socket by the gear stick will be in two parts like the focus? or if not a single cable.

I would suggest contacting your contact your local parts supplier and give them the part number of the newer module to be 100%. Trevor Porter at www.fordpartsuk.com will be able to help. Use their contact form and they'll come back to you will a suitable part.

Thanks for the reply. The old module is 'AL' and the new one is 'AT'.

I was hoping not to have to do any rewiring, but if needs must...

The sockets by the gearstick are a usb and a 3.5mm aux. I was hoping I'd be able to use an off the shelf mini usb cable, run it from the module into the glovebox and plug the Ipod in there. But am I right in thinking the sound from the Ipod goes through the aux?

With the module that has the mini-USB connection type your choice is to buy the cable from Ford (£52.86 as it comes with all the bluetooth wiring loom attached to it and has to be cut away) or buy a USB 2.0 A Female to B Male Mini 5Pin Converter Cable [like this one when they're back in stock, usually £1.10] but it will not fit in the fascia panel by the gearstick so you'll need to leave it hanging in the glovebox or find a better solution of integrating it.

But am I right in thinking the sound from the Ipod goes through the aux?

No, since the April 2012 USB update (see thread in guides section) the Ford 'Y' cable is redundant and iPod music plays purely through USB so you can use the official Apple cable that comes with it (or any other compatible cable)

Whilst I cannot say for certain, I believe that should work (it's a £2.18 gamble with good odds ;)) but you would need the iPod tucked away in the glovebox or find some way of attaching the female USB end to the existing fascia by the gearstick.

It's got to be worth a try! Looking at it, running a cable over the back of the glovebox and down to the module should be a piece of cake. I also prefer the idea of the Ipod being tucked well out of view, rather than on full show beside the handbrake!

It worked! The usb connection is now in the glovebox, and the iPod stays out of site and out of the way. Thanks for everyone's help.
