Jeremyc
Spark plugs arrived today but no wipes so they should definitely come tomorrow. Decided the car needed a good clean and wax anyway Anyway I'm sure you can get the cleaning kits you just need to use a postal carrier who accepts them. I know eurocaparts sends them via UPS. Don't give up on the cotton Lenny! http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/////?508771111&0&cc5_9999

Looking at the information about it it seems quite costly though!
Stoney871
Surely the oil on the air filters is just 2 stroke oil? I used to have to oil the filter on my first motorbike and that's what I had to use.
Dee_82
Seems a little lighter but definitely some kinda mineral oil. The brakes do add up, but you can get parts cheap if you look about, I got 2 used calipers for a about 25 quid, did a recon on them myself, discs cables lines etc were all new, most from Germany which were about half the price of UK stocked ones

I'm sure I remember it was a lot of work reading about it. Maybe another sunny day B) and I'm sure the insurance company would have a field day categorising this modification Then again I don't think it will be too pricey afterall: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2009-FORD-FOCUS-2-5-ST-PASSENGER-REAR-BRAKE-CALIPER-FREE-P-P-/271873999909?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Model%3AFocus&hash=item3f4cf40425 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-FORD-FOCUS-ST-DRIVERS-SIDE-REAR-O-S-BRAKE-CALIPER-2005-2006-2008-2011-/181560032922?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Model%3AFocus&hash=item2a45d23e9a Any of focus owners got any exhaust things going? Lenny
Any of focus owners got any exhaust things going? If possible pictures and sound and estimated price Ive got a Piper Performance 2.5" T304 Stainless Steel cat back duplex Available for 400.00 GBP from Zen Sport There also available from piper website however 50 GBP more expensive go figure Additional parts required are: Two Focus ST exhaust brackets Two rubber exhaust hangers. Both available from ford for under 30 pounds The duplex is a pipe exiting on both sides of the car, If fitting a duplex to your focus; your probably best off fitting an ST bumper or ZetecS rear diffuser to complete the look, There are cheaper aftermarket exhaust systems on the market, Any local exhaust repair garage can build your dreams for under 2-300 But piper are originally an aeroplane manufacturer they have used wind tunnel technology to perfect the split in the duplex exhaust, T304 is aircraft grade stainless steel, This means equal clouds of steam exit from both sides of the car on frosty mornings as saw in image below -1°C outside car engine running at 900RPM tick over idle.

I can upload an image if you likeCheers mate, Yeah upload id like to see it fitted and your engine bay, I've got my focus booked in for a service later in the month as I'm unable to do it myself this time due to a left acetabular fracture, The drivers wheel is squeaking/whistle on braking and cornering, Could be wheel bearings, CV joint or the brakes :) i have the car almost five years since new and never recall having brake pads replaced lol, I be like Schumacher on the corners still on first set of brakes but verging on to the forth gear box "pit thong" "pit thong" As a precaution I've ordered some drilled and grooved front discs with mintex pads to have the upgrade fitted when required, Killed me to purchase at present though as the euro is extremely weak against the pound at present 62cents to the pound brakes were 110GBP Anyways back on topic mate upload some pictures :)

Lenny
Get a pair for the back ;). For future conversion. ssshhh!! You'll get me killed, I'm going to be forking out at least 600 euro this month on maintenance costs update on my build thread to be saw at the end of the month, Also I'm not sure what size i would require as I've not got rear callipers etc. If I'm upgrading rear to discs it will most likely be spring 2016, There's a lot of science to be considered aswell because rear brakes can be bigger than the front brakes, If they are then the rear will brake harder than the front simulating a handbrake pull My front discs are 278mm The rear callipers you linked from an ST focus are for 300mm discs; too big compared to my fronts would cause my rear to swing. Gotta find out what rear discs other models have fitted then fit those could prove a bit more difficult to source from breakers. The induction filter looks great :) As a bit of preventative maintenance on your 1.6 Petrol, I recommend you seal the inside area of the windscreen washer jets on the inside of the bonnet, A common problem with the 1.6 petrol focus from 2005-2011 Is the engine spark plug rail is positioned below the washer jet holes, Transition from hot to cold deteriorates the rubber seals on the jets allowing rain water to seap through on to the top of the engine and inside the spark plug seals not good. Prevent this by using some bathroom silicone to seal around the windscreen washer jets on the underside of the bonnet. Save you money in the long run.
Lenny
This Induction pipe would also help smooth induction as best possible on the 1.6 Petrol by eliminating the constrictive ribs of the existing hose, Quite expensive for just one hose though Samco may be much cheaper for the same item Roose MotorSport were always very expensive, had to purchase a part from them before though as i couldnt get it anywhere else for my boost gauge fitting, Anyway heres the replacement induction hose: Link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220743040915 Also have you saw these videos :) https://youtu.be/cbGWgvJN1_8 https://youtu.be/VGtImIP6j3A
Dee_82
No changes need to the axle mate, and the handbrake is much easier than it sounds, although the whole feeler gauge thing didn't really work so well, just ended up doing it the old fashion way of trial and error The handbrake cable looks and sounds complicated but it really isn't, I tackled it it two parts, I pulled off the heat shield to get a good look at everything as part of an exploratory mission, I went through the motions of doing everything without doing it, just to check for seized bolts and socket sizes, it was just as well I did as ford must have used different bolts at one point, the guide had sizes in that didn't match mine. Ive not really noticed a massive difference on the foot brake, its moved the bias forward from 70 30 to about 60 40 which is a good thing, she was way to far forward before, slightly better in the rain too plus no more sticking drums in the morning after a shower. The big difference is the hand brake, she will happily drag her back wheels behind her when applied fully, so no more uneasy feeling when parking on a hill! As for the parts, with your 278s on the front your looking at 265s on the rear, if you had 300s on the front then your looking at the 280s on the rear, the estate version of our focus uses 300 280 so when buying second hand callipers you will also need to source slightly different carriers, the 280 carrier is quite a bit bigger, the calliper its self is actually the same regardless which of the two you use. After teaching myself how, I did the math for putting 280s on the rear rather than find 265 carriers, turns out that it will still have a front bias but not by much, it was something like 55 45 so I opted for buying 265 carriers new. Although the pads and pistons were the same size, the 15mm increase on the discs would apply more torque to the wheels. Anyhow, in short you both should get some discs on your rears :)

Dee_82
Lenny, any time mate, you've done more than enough for us on this forum with your past and present adventures, id be happy to lend a hand if I can. In terms of tools tho, youd need socket sets and female torx bits, an extension bar (for access to the hubs) a torque wrench and some flared spanners for the brake likes, id give sizes but they might well be different.

I have actually seen both those videos I love MCM It is OTT expensive mate im not sure it would make as much difference as having fitted the Green filter, The ribs in the existing pipe are designed to reduce induction noise, So a smooth pipe would increase noise more than performance, In saying that id like to see one come availabe for the 1.6TDCi

Perhaps increased suction too so when the engine needs it it can get it faster? Or am I thinking OTT Would be interested to see some studies into air induction. Perhaps increased suction too so when the engine needs it it can get it faster? Or am I thinking OTT You've hit the nail on the head mate, Yeah the smoother you can channel air in to the throttle body or in some very nice cases "throttle bodies" the better the engine response, This would mainly be felt when changing gears; transition would feel smoother as the momentum wouldn't drop off as fast. The colder you can get the air in to the engine the better in terms of acceleration as colder air is thicker it creates more expansion inside the chambers when suddenly heated, The third factor would be mass quantity but in modern engines the Mass Air Flow sensor has perimeters which it matches air to fuel ratios so there's nothing to be gained from ripping the U bend off your garage toilet and mounting it on the engine it wont make any difference to the car. Would be interested to see some studies into air induction. And Lenny should have gotten a petrol :DI would have but I've three kids already to provide for and the smell of petrol makes me Horny, Especially when its burned with some 2-Stroke oil gets me all goin like bajaysus
Lenny
Ive added this post to the first page of this guide aswell to best share findings, My Green Cotton Performance Induction Filter has now reached the end of its life, Rather than immediately purchase i replacement from Green, i studied the market to see if anything better had been developed. So to recap in terms of evolution across the past five years, Started off here: Moved on to Green Cotton Performance: Now moved on to the K&N E-9289 filter. My findings were that K&N have manufactured a kit called the 57s-4000 I've purchased mine from ProdigyMotorSport Link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151572141725 This kit from K&N consists of a K&N E-9289 cylinder filter same diameter as stock filter but it has more pleates than standard making it larger in terms of induction space within the same area. The filter also boasts a large side induction section which is a mushroom filter inset to the top of the cylinder drawing in cold air from behind the headlight. Here is a picture taken inside the K&N E-9289 filter you can clearly see the inverted mushroom at the top of the filter. Compared to the standard performance filter which is just a blank end: And here the stock filter: The side induction filter is in my opinion definitely the way forward; the design is simple and ingenious guaranteed cold air induction incorporated in to the stock enclosure. The K&N57s kit also comes with a replacement air box lid its raised higher inside compared to the stock lid aswell as being a polished smooth surface: The kit guarantees an increase in horsepower: K&N have even supplied two +5bhp stickers to ensure an increase in performance is felt. In competition now: Green now also manufacture a filter with side induction: The green filter with side induction doesn't come supplied with a larger induction lid or side cap its just the filter itself. Link: http://www.fswerks.com/products/green-filter-high-performance-cone-air-filter-ford-focus-escape-2012-2013 K&N also provide the filter with side induction as a stand alone item without a larger lid or side cap if desired: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/K-N-E-9289-High-Performance-Replacement-Air-Filter-/131446800923?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e9ad7021b I have to say; I've closely examined the build quality of the K&N filter and i cant see any excessive glue on the surface of the filter or any imperfections due to "mass production" as claimed by Green in the first page of this guide. Having the K&N57s kit now fitted; The exhaust tone has a bit more grunt to it, The induction sounds great especially at around 3,000rpm in 3rd Gear onwards. The performance is increased aswell I've not driven it myself but the wife says it feels like the increase from blanking the EGR valve. In terms of MPG i was already getting 70MPG so it can only get better. Overall my advise would be; The Green Cotton Induction Filter linked and fitted on page 01 Is a great filter provides increased MPG, performance and is still the best filter on the market for under 100 pounds. However if your willing to spend over 100 pounds on your induction system then the K&N57s-4000 Is the best on the Market today.
