Focus Lighting

My focus titanium has standard lights fitted and was looking to get the bi-xenon lights from a mrk2 st fitted (think they look cool) does anybody know if this is possible as my local dealer won't give me a definitive answer as I need the leveling sensors the modules installed for the leveling system and the headlamp washers installed. So is this possible and rough cost guess ?

It is possible yes, but can be a lot of hassle getting all the parts together and installing the washer system etc. It'll also be hard to source the leveling sensors and control module. Also, you will be looking at a price of around the £500 mark n a lot of hassle if you was to source the parts individually from breakers. If you got a dealer to quote you, you'd be looking at £1200 for the parts n that won't even include the wiring.

A fellow member called Haz93 has started doing this mod himself to a facelift so he will be able to advise you better on this.

A cheap option you may want to consider is just fitting hid effect bulbs such as osrams or philips for that clean white look and some black head light units instead of the standard chrome ones would look good too.

Hey Charlie many thanks for the advice I'm not sure if I'm going to bother tbh I want a something quicker thinking on the st but insurance is far too steep and I am going to wait and see the fiesta st but are the osram bulbs any good I had Phillips in my 04 fiesta flame and tbh they were !Removed!

I was thinking about installing the pre facelift ST headlights to my mk2, then I priced it up lol. Just had a really wierd 2 hour drive round narrow winding country lanes with no streetlights, can say that the osrams didn't let me down.

Heres a photo of my h7s:

These coupled with some decent hid look bulbs would look quite good in my opinion:

I'm gonna get these for my mk2 at some point:

As for what bulbs you actually go for, it comes down to personal preference. A lot of us have the osram nightbreaker plus, but if you want something as bright as the nightbreaker but whiter, go for the osram cool blue intense.

A lot of fellow members swear my philips ultra vision I belive (think that's what they called?)

We recently had a discussion on what bulbs to go for which can be found here:

If I can be of any more help or advise in any other way just let me know.

I have some cool blue intense to fit tomorrow so I will post photos when done for reference purposes.

I was planning to fit them today but the wife made me take her for lunch and then I was helping my niece train her new collie puppy.

You could fit the Bi Xenon headlights with no levelling or washer system for around 200 quid if your lucky. However that would not be legal, which is why the dealer won't give you a straight answer.

I have a mate with a mk5 golf with R32 body kit and Xenons fitted with no washers or levelling. He has been fine, even passed its MOT!! No hassle at all

Was hoping you'd advise on this mate. Knew it could be done without washers n levelers but it wouldn't be legal. Hows your mate getting away with that lol?

i was thinking of this but i recieved an email from vosa stating

we are aware of the current trend in fitting h.i.d lights to standard projector lenses and fitting bi xenon headlights without the associated and relevant hardware therefore making them illegal we are aware that at present the current m.o.t regulations can allow this due to a loophole in the rules however this loophole will be closed when the m.o.t standard is updated soon, it is necessary to make you aware that although you may get through an m.o.t with such modifications it is still not legal and therefore police and accident investigators do and will check the lighting of the car and criminal convictions are a possibility as well as severe fines it is very common to hear that accidents have been caused by modified lighting blinding other drivers if this was to be stated in an accident or collision situation then blame may be laid fully at the driver of the vehicle with the illegal modifications.

we would advise strongly that you do not carry forward with these modifications for a variety of reasons mainly those stated above and thankyou for youre request on this information.

Well he said that the guy at the mot place said he didn't think it is fair to fail cars without levelling and washers as a lot of cars around the 1995 to 2000 when xenons were first introduced by manufactures didn't have theses features, so they would have to fit them to pass mot.

Hey artscot with the lights change I want would mean the lights function the same way the mk 2 focus st and rs lights work so I can't see how I would fail an mot or be driving with illegal lights I'm not simply going to buy hid bulbs and whack them in

As long as the the lights are a full transplant from an RS/ST along with washers and self levelling motors then you'll be compliant.

basicaly if they werent standard then its ilegal a 2000 car with xenons without leveling is standard the rules later changed so must apply to those rules dont shoot the messenger

I understand sorry for sounding snappy but if as stoney says the should be legal provided I have auto leveling projector style lights and the washers fitter if it fails an mot then all cars with tendons should fail

if its fitted with the necessary hardware as they put it ie levelers and washers its legal if you didnt fit thore parts its ilegal thats basicaly all they meant so you would be fine

i queried vosa as there was a lot of conflicting info and a friend wants to fit the bi xenons as well at present you can do what you want but as vosa said accident investigators do check like anything its up to the individual they gave no mention of when the loophole will be closed wont be this year
