pinky perks Posted October 5, 2012 Share Posted October 5, 2012 i have just had my first service on my fiesta i was told that i need 2 new front tyres very soon i have only done 10000 miles.They have both worn on the inside they said i must have hit a pot hole i know i have not .They said it needs tracking but i would think one tyre would wear more than the other if tracking was outHas anyone had th same problem thanks. Brigante Posted October 6, 2012 Share Posted October 6, 2012 When I first bought my car the front two tyres both had uneven wear and needed replacing. Got the tracking looked at and it was way out (2 previous lady owners) common cause is kerbing. Cheap to put right at around 20quid. Simple answer is they are eejits mate n didn't check the tracking (I don't believe tracking comes under part of the service?) I would get the tracking looked at as well though. Sorry, I don't agree. Tyres that wear on the inside are caused by wheels being misaligned. That is a "tracking" problem. If wheels wear on the inside then the wheels are pointing outwards too much and if wearing on the outside then wheels are pointing inwards too much. I hope this clarifies the symptons and causes. Each to their own opinions but I'm going on solid advice from Police mechanic with over 30 years experience. I also forgot to mention that if both tyres are wearing on the inside then that is most likely a tracking problem. It does not matter if only one tyre hits a pot hole and points outward, as both tyres will wear at the same rate, because in essence they will both pointing outwards but the amount of pointing will be only half as much as the amount the first tyre. But if only one tyre wears, then it is most likely that the camber is out. Camber is when the vertical axis of the tyre is is not as it should be. i.e. the wheel is not vertical and the top of the wheel slopes inwards. Of course if the camber is out on both sides then both tyres can wear as well. It is confusing but there are many web sites on tyre wear may explain this in a better way than I have.
