A good starting place would be to check the fuse/relay box to see if the pins for the fuse and relay were ever fitted.
If so it should be a fairly easy job and hopefully the switch wiring should also be there.
If any of the above are missing, it makes it more of a job but not impossible (I have done 2 before).
What age is the Escort ?.

Phil, it been a long time since I done this.
I seem to remember the fuse position was there but there were no pins for the fuse to attach to on either car.
I think 1 of them (a mid 80's escort) used a relay that was clipped under the drivers footwell and a later Fiesta has a position for the relay in the relay box but again there were no pins in the board.

For both I got the hfs relay and an inline fuse holder wired them in myself, its probably the same relay you have in your Puma.

Being a 2000 model, things might have changed a little;
Both screens I fitted used a single supply, I know later screens are split with 2 pairs of elements left & right, maybe later escorts had this too.
Also, there is a sense wire from the alternator, the same wire that lit the good old battery indicator on the dash which stops you from using the screen unless the engine is running. Again, depending on when Ford decided to introduce Smart Charge this may no longer be there.

If you can obtain a wiring diagram for your escort and puma, you might find the circuits are identical but unless you are confident to wire it in yourself don't attempt it.

Sorry I can't help further, all the escort info I had is long gone.
