Hi,
Last Thursday my focus started making a Whirring noise.
The more you rev the engine the faster it gets. Its coming from the back of the engine somewhere - turbo, timing belt etc.
It does it when your not moving so its not tyres, gearbox etc. If you depress clutch it still does it.
I've also noticed that when your driving round town, if you come off the gas, it slows down alot more than it used to without braking.
Any ideas ?
Thanks

My mk2 1.8 TDCi has a whining noise similar to the one you describe. It's directly linked to engine speed (not vehicle speed) and is the sound of something rotating.
I'm not saying it IS the same as yours, but it could be.
The best way to describe the sound in words is "vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv" that rises and falls with revs
(Don't laugh, try saying it and it'll sound right)
So I took it into Ford and they diagnosed the pulley that drives the air com belt is failing, and the noise is friction
It goes in for repair on Thursday.

Hi. Thanks. The mechanic I use is looking at mine on Weds. He seems to think its timing belt on mine.
