Hi all, I have an escort 55 1.8d non turbo, on a 2001 plate. I have to replace the engine, and am swapping like for like, my question is, do I have to take the gearbox out, to get the engine out? I have everything else stripped off, hoping I would not have to take gearbox out.
Any advice would be very welcome.

You dont have to, but to be honest its not a great deal more work if you leave it on. Drop the engine and box to the floor and lift the front of the van up to get the old out and new in from underneath.
