Jason 'Tweek' Batty
Tiger Seal... its the Daddy! Just use a few splodges... one on each end and then 3 down the length... not too much. Then use some low tack masking tape to hold in place for 24hrs. This stuff really sticks! I used loads on my Focus ST Carbon bonnet trim... it would not come off when I sold it! What colour you going for? I have gone for ford radiant red. Gonna get some bonding stuff now, thanks for that.
dohboy78
Heard a bit of a squeel t'other day and did a bit of googling and thought it may be the dreaded steering rack issue... Now not actually sure it is the steering rack. When stationary and putting full lock on - No noise. Checked fluid and no bubbles or froth. When moving at a slow speed and turning the wheel not quite full lock I get a squeel... sometimes. Not sure if it's a brake issue?? Did Fraud change the steering rack for later vehicles?
dohboy78
Ok... Squeeky squeely sorted!! It was the tin protecter shield thing on the ball joint rubbing against the disk. DOH!! At least I got it sorted before changing the wheels back to standard and stripping off the spacers. Would of looked a right plonker! Cheers John ST-3 for the advice! dohboy78
20/03/13 - Jesus... Black eye project is not going well. Burnt out a heat gun .. Yup you read it right. Then it would appear that the lens has a kind of S shaped edge. Going to be nearly impossible to get out intact.Going to have a rethink tomorrow.Plus I scorched the carpet a bit!21/03/13- Had another look today at the lights. Trimmed off the very outer lipwith my Dremmel and have parted a small section. There is so muchsealant... I have bruised and shredded hands and arms now.Ithink with a bit of tidying and a fresh bead of sealant all the wayround they will look good. Even if they don't you wont be able to tellunless the bonnet is open! Will get some pics up tomorrow.Off for nightshift again!
dohboy78
So after 4 days of scraping, heating and cutting I have seperated both headlights. Thesecond one came apart a bit easier. Used the heatgun, two kithen knivesand a stanley knife to seperate the lens from the back. Light with outer lip trimmed off: Part way through seperation: Seperated:

Lenny
Top Class mate, Can't believe I've not saw this thread until today, Fair play with the win on the second set of headlights and the outcome is fantastic results. I'm very interested to see the mechanical operations of the Mondeo as id be interested to see if it would be a straight fit in the focus, Id love to remove the key latch and fit a badgless grill. Also your engine is TDCi How do you keep the chrome exhaust tips so clean? I've got a piper T304 stainless duplex with oval chrome tips, very difficult to keep them clean like yours. Keep up the work mate I look forward to it

As for the exhaust trims... Autosol once a week will keep them shiney!!

dohboy78
The next episode begins... Today I decided to pull my foglights out and try and get the lower grill out. SoI read up on here and decided to take the undertray completely off togain access to the retaining screws. Took about 20 mins to get all thescrews and bolts out.. there must of been 20 holding it on!! Unscrewed the retainer screws and slipped a paint scraper along the top of the lights and popped out. Unclipped the cables and jobs a good un. Movedon to the lower grill. I had read that you just need to give it a goodtug and work your way around. This worked for the bottom section. Butthe top half did not budge. Had a good look and it appears that the topsection has been bonded to the bumper. Bugger! SoI have left it in place for now with the bottom hanging out and willhave a think. Might have to spray it on the car? Not a problem if theweather stays good?! I did manage to pull the lowergrill mesh out. I had bought a Focus ST lower grill to try and create acustom lower grill. This idea has been binned as the parking sensorswont fit the ST grill and it is actually a different mesh pattern fromthe upper grill. So I have decided to put the original grills back onbut painted black and have ordered some Black and silver Gel overlaysfrom DMB. I will also paint the chrome bit the badge sits on to "stealth" it up a bit. I have keyed up all the bits and washed down for primer and paint tomorrow. Just hope the weather holds out!!
