Engine Cover - Should There Be One?

My wife has a Fiesta Titanium April 2012 (only bought it 4 weeks ago) and I noticed today that there were 3 screw fixings on the top of the Engine (1.4 Auto Petrol) which looked like there should be a cover screwed on.

Can anyone who has a 12/62 plate Fiesta Titanium confirm if they have a top cover over the engine please. In the manual it does show one but Dealer says they think it was discontinued on the 2012 models? The book covers 2011 models.

From what I gather the only model to have a cover on it is the zetec s tdci I have been wrong before though

It's hit & miss. My 2010 Zetec-S DIDN'T have one.

My 09 fiesta had a cover, went for a service and came back minus it and when questioned apparently it never had it. So the fixing holes are for....? :-D

My 09 Titanium TDCI didn't have a cover and neither has my 59 plate 1.4 c petrol Titanium. It does sound hit and miss.

Its not really that important, mostly cosmetic (tidys up the engine compartment) it can reduce noise a little (eg tappet noise) and it can help to keep an engine warmer for longer (good in winter)

MOT testers cannot remove covers and with MOTs becoming stricter with such things as oil leaks/ spills etc - they can't see under covers

If you don't have an engine cover and you feel you want one -

You could always buy one online (e-bay etc) - a S/H one in decent condition isnt going to "break the bank"

I have a MK6 with the 1.4 petrol engine, i believe they use the same engine still now albeit a tad more powerful (correct me if im wrong) and mine has an engine cover of sorts, its a dual purpose thing, its basically just the air box with air filter in it and it happens to be doubled up as a cover, i have to admit it does a great job of silencing the engine from the outside of the car its pretty quiet, it just makes cleaning or checking the air filter a chore, you have to undo it from the engine then it has some of those star screw heads to be removed all to check the filter, anyway i dont think you are missing out.

I believe what my Dealer said is probably right.

Ford stopped fitting them in 2008/9 when the MK7 (I think) came out.

I have checked now six - 11/12/62 plates and NONE have them fitted.

It would appear that 2008/9 was the last time they were fitted?

I have a Oct 2012 1.4 diesel on 62 plate ( pre facelift) and mine has a cover.

Does anyone know how to remove it , I cant see any screws, I wonder if it just snaps on ?

It is just hit and miss whether you get one mine a 11 tdci zs and has one. It seems to be that more common for deisels to have a cover

All the MK7 diesel versions should have an engine cover and none of the MK7 patrol versions had one. It wasn't even an option for the patrol versions.

The TS wants to know were the screw fixings were for, take a look at this picture. This is my MK7 1,25 engine bay.

The two red circles were the fixing points for the airbox on the Fiesta MK6(.5) engines. The MK7 has the airbox next to the cylinders.

The four yellow circles are there on some engines models to fix (as you can see) a Volvo cover.

The 1.6 engines from Ford were also placed in some Volvo models. All volvo engines came with such cover.
