Focus 2.0L Diesel Vs 2.0L Petrol ...which Engine Is Best?

What is the best 2.0l engine in the focus MK2.5 2009/2010 year range? isit the 2.0l TDCI or 2.0l Duretec ?

What are the pros and cons for both engines?

A dealer is convincing me to buy a 2.0l petrol as I don't do alot of milage..but I hear the diesel has better acceleration from lows revs compared to the petrol? is this true despite the petrol having more bhp..

I bought a 2.0 TDCi despite only doing low mileage, but it is simply because I prefer diesel engines. You get a lot more torque, petrol engines often have higher bhp as they can rev higher and bhp is a calculation which takes into account the revs.

The real pulling power of the engine is its torque, but obviously it depends on the car and how it is setup as to how that torque is used. Diesel's tend to have a lot more in gear power, although tend to be more nose heavy in the bends.

The best bet if you can is to try both engines, it really depends how you like to drive.

another thing worth considering is how long that you are likely to keep the car & costs over that life.

Modern turbo-diesels are pretty complex (they have to be to pass Euro emissions tests) which means that when things (DMF, DPF, injectors, turbo etc.) do go wrong they are expensive to fix.

Normally aspirated petrols tend to be easier/cheaper to fix but against that you won't get as high an mpg & you will usually pay a higher RFL.

TDs tend to be more expensive to buy & that used to be offset by lesser depreciation - now that TDs represent 50% or more of new car sales that is no longer true.

If the economics are close or immaterial to you buy what you find to be the more pleasant to drive.
