Groaning On Pull After

hello all,

basically trying to figure the fault out and cost. When the car is cold and you pull off as the clutch is in the middle if its travel and only there there is an audible whine ? only for 10 to 15 minutes of the drive. Then happens when the cars stood till till end of day.

what do you reckon this might be ?

its been happening a while where sometimes it would do it then sometimes not but its more so now.

I did initially take it to the garage but it refused to do it for them lol typical.

any thoughts are much appreciated.

1) does this occur when sat in neutral?

2) does this occur in all gears?

3) what sort of miles has she done?

hi

only does it in first when I pull off first thing in the morning and reverse same again in the morning. If I leave the car 5/6 hours it will do it again. It's never done it in neutral.

Just first and reverse.

have you checked the clutch area for any leaks? I wonder if you are low on fluid?

Does your clutch ever feel like its slipping? When the clutch started to go the first thing I noticed was that on a damp morning, the first time I pulled away it would feel like the clutch was slipping. Was absolutely fine after that.

What's the mileage on your car? Mine was a 1.6 but with over 100k on the original clutch

have you checked the clutch area for any leaks? I wonder if you are low on fluid?

I'm guilty of not checking it but every other fluid! mainly because I have difficulty seeing the fluid on the outside lines. I just read a tip to check it at night with a light. I'll give that a go hopefully tomorrow as its chucking down.

Daft question to check for clutch leaks should to be looking at the back end of the gearbox ?

I passed my usual garage and he said it sounds like a clutch release bearing ? and £3/400 to fix as the gearbox has to come out new clutch as its mad not to change and some other stuff. Said to leave it till it gets worse as the worst that will happen is you can't select a gear ? sounds a but dodgy if advice.

I will check the fluid first and posr back ny findings.

I would normally associate a whine with a bearing so it would seem there is every chance of it being the release bearing.

Apologies for my lack of knowledge what exactly is clutch slip ? how do I know if mine is slipping ?

I'm at 58k and its the 1.8 petrol 04.

interestingly used to happen mainly on wet/damp mornings now moat if nit every morning.

to add its an original clutch as far as I know.

clutch slip is like when you ride the clutch, so you only just bite the clutch plates together, and then you accelerate with the clutch partially engaged, your revs go up, but your car doesn't go as quick as it should be at those revs... (like running on ice! in normal circumstances you would be down the shops by now, but you keep running the same and you only just got to your garden gate!)

as for the clutch juice, I think its at the front of the gearbox, but may be mistaken.

Ahhh I definitely have no clutch slip then.

Managed to check the brake fluid, its 5mm under the max line so plenty in there.

Jacked the car up kicked a stand under inspected the gearbox area entirely and no signs of any leaking at all.

Nipped it to the garage at lunch and he said he thinks its the clutch release bearing and quoted me £400 parts labour all inc.

Is that a good price ?

Also said if it was his he wouldn't do anything at this point till it gets a lot worse if it does, may well stay the same ..

Sadly not something I can fix with my Philips lol

I would still continue to drive the car until it gets worse, but if it really annoys you then I appreciate that your going to want it fixed.

Shop around though, you should be able to get it done a bit cheaper than that
