snatch97 Posted March 3, 2013 Share Posted March 3, 2013 hi got a mondeo tdci 03 took it out few weeks ago noticed heater plug light flashing no power then left it at home struggled to start , so i took it to the garage they changed heater plugs still the same, so they had injectors bench tested said they ok , tested pump that ok and it comeing up no faults on dianogostics , now it starts up crap runs like it running on 3 ,no power smoking alot and engine rattle, they saying only thing now they think engine knackered , but i think they saying that to get it out there hair, anybody got any ideas cause im all for scrapping it Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
wase16ll Posted March 3, 2013 Share Posted March 3, 2013 is glow plug light still flashing? reason i ask is if it is, there is no way it wont produce a fault code, suggest you take it to another garage. no way of knowing, but get the feeling garage is a bit behind on diagnostics, which begs the question, were the injectors reprogrammed into the ecu after refitment..not unusual for one or more injectors to occasionly lose its programming, gives symptoms of what your describing..plus would definitely need reprogramming if they weren't refitted into the same cylinder they originally come from. if car is worse since work was done, above would definitely explain that i might be wrong, they might have already done all this. got to be worth asking before binning it . wase16ll Posted March 3, 2013 Share Posted March 3, 2013 ok, just original post said no fault codes glow plugs themselves are incapable of producing fault codes as far as im aware, but the glow plug circuit can, when it does, then first point of call is a simple resistence test on the plugs. plugs have been changed, glow light still flashing, fault code returns... then the rest of circuit needs testing. there is a multitude of possibles for your symptoms, many of which may not always produce a code, but still be faulty. such as fuel pressure solenoid and regulator, fuel filter [has that been changed] camshaft sensor, engine compression and many more. if it was me, would take to diesel specialist get a full diagnosis that goes beyond fault codes... fault codes arent the be all/end all of diagnostics, more often than not codes are a clue to the problem not the reason..reading and understanding live data is far more useful weapon for diagnosis than fault codes... bladeage Posted March 7, 2013 Share Posted March 7, 2013 Hi check cylinder compressions firstly to eliminate rings or valves. check the crank angle sensor...really take it out and check it, they gather filings from the clutch and send a false reading back to the ecu causing all sorts of problems,if there is a pyramid looking amount of filings on the sensor then the gearbox housing has not been cleaned properly after a new clutch fitting or....the clutch is on its way out. Air leak on your fuel input.....look for fuel leaks around the injectors and fuel lines etc...if there is a wet patch then air is also getting in where the fuel is leaking. mintalkin Posted March 7, 2013 Share Posted March 7, 2013 agree with wase,it sounds like the garage knows nothing about the tdci engine, injectors in wrong pots, loss of coding ect, flashing glowplug light indicates a problem on the fuel side of things, obd became common on diesels from 2004 so with yours being a 2003 you need a reader capable of reading the codes which there will be, get to a garage that know what there are doing.
