"taking Oval To Blue Horizon" Lenny's Build Thread 2010-2015

I looked into those links and went back to my 2013 build thread to see which one I bought. I got them all off Dynamic Sounds UK. This is the kit that I got and I asked them to send me the Pioneer patch lead so that I could connect my head unit. I found that buying it as a kit was cheaper than getting the parts separate.

http://www.dynamicso...reo fitting kit

I reckon there might be other sellers on EBay/Amazon selling the same kit as a deal. Would be worth googling round for it. As regards to the 2 links you provided, I am not sure that either of them would fit. Plus, they work out to be more expensive in the end as you will need other parts as well.

Just had a second look at the Dynamic Sounds link that I sent you and there is a drop down option to select a Pioneer patch lead when ordering. It doesn't say the model/part number though. They are a very good company as I had issues when ordering and I was travelling to London to pick it up. They replied to an email within 30min and had the problem sorted in 1hr. The parcel was despatched straight away such that I had it when I flew over for the weekend. Very good customer service. Their shipping to Ireland is expensive though. They do ship to N.Ireland for free as it's part of UK. You could always use Parcel Motel to get it delivered to you.

Thanks mate,

That complete kit from dynamic sounds looks like a great deal everything is in it,

Ill get a shipping price from them first,

Then check out parcel Motel or ship to me Ireland.

Thanks for the link, i must read through your "2014 upgrades" thread again for more information too.

To think you where going to sell me damaged goods pfffttt...

Wonky cat eye that's at least 50% off! The truth comes out now!

But the cats got bluetooth or blue teeth :)

Wasn't always cross eyed only that way since i projected him back out through the drivers door he evidently creped in through as saw in images.

Have you already revealed the head unit your purchasing? Have I missed the announcement? All this talk about patch leads gets me wondering

I haven't yet purchased the replacement pioneer head unit I've gotta sell the existing one to make some space for it to fit,

And eh my body for the rest of the money to purchase it.

Here it is though:

That's a really nice headunit Lenny. I should sound very good if it's anything like the previous Pioneer units. Paired up with the rest of the planned system, I have no doubt it will sound awesome. Roll on :)

Only downside, no cd/dvd drive. That would not work for myself as I love listening to music on cds. Mp3s are convenient but IMHO music sounds better from cds with my current setup.

Eh NO to Tina Turner :P

I think you will need to crank this tune up once you get all the sound sorted.

How do you make the Youtube videos come up? :)

Lmao are you saying there's potential for me to end up. In the dog house after this project

The App Radio range is quite woeful. But, people have put out hacks for it to be able to mirror your phone etc. It involves a lot of work but fairly stable if anyone is tempted to do it.

I think going for something that will deliver in terms of sound is top of the list. Everything else for myself would be extra. Granted having all the toys like bluetooth, ipod connectivity etc is just nice add ons.

Sorry mate,

Got mixed up between:

X5600bt

And

X8600bt

Lucky i don't work in a shop that sells them or id have just been sacked after seeing off one very happy customer paying for mid range and walking out with premium

I think the fact that the stereo has a built in parrot bluetooth system makes it easier to justify spending that bit more.

I like gadgets and wouldn't purchase a stereo that plays cassettes and CDs but i cant ever see myself having a stereo that doesn't play a CD seems wrong lol

Having spent the past 2-3 hours extensively researching the range of automotive reversing camera's

Even going out in complete down pour rain to measure the boot handle width on the mk2.5 only to find that it is considerably slimmer than the mk3 so unfortunately this reverse camera wont fit the mk2.5 as beautiful as it looks

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-170-Rear-View-Parking-Camera-for-FORD-Focus-MONDEO-RANGEROVER-FREELANDER-2-/370828989733?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item5657215525

1-1_zpsup2iggcq.jpg

Overall i declare this little unit to be the best on the market today in terms of comparability and night vision performance:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141019667847?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D141019667847%26_rdc%3D1

However if like me you have dual cree 6000k LED Bulbs fitted on either side kicking out a combined 110watt bulb equivalent of light,

You don't really need the additional 4 LED's the above camera provides.

So I've purchased this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/120892369703?clk_rvr_id=707790830408

Very discrete and affordable

Imitating the genuine ford reverse camera fitted to the mk7.5 fiesta as saw in image below of fords genuine camera:

CIMG1256.jpg

I think it will do the job quite nicely,

I am aware there are units available which replaces the reg plate light units,

They are nice but also very cheap from China, where quality assurance is not existent,

I'm quite confident that the unit i have purchased has originated from there too however:

The design I've purchased does not incorporate a registration light,

Meaning:

I only need to supply it with one power source,

I plan to run a positive feed from the reverse light feed to the positive feed on the camera,

This way the camera only becomes live while the car is in reverse,

This method doesn't guarantee the unit wont burst in to flames,

But it limits the time frame of such an event down to only while the car is in reverse gear is it in any way active.

Will kill a few hours of boredom figuring out how to run the wires in through the factory grommets prior to installing it and in preparation for stereo upgrade.

One item now struck off the list,

I'm off to Halfords tomorrow,

Purchasing:

2 x Vibe Slick 4 AWG Amplifier wiring kit

http://www.halfords.ie/sat-nav-audio/car-audio/stereo-fitting-accessories/vibe-slick-4-gauge-amplifier-wiring-kit

2 x Vibe Fast Plug Connectors

http://www.halfords.ie/sat-nav-audio/car-audio/stereo-fitting-accessories/vibe-fastplug-quick-release-amplifier-sub-box-connector

These items are very much essential and the base beginning in the creation of a quality sound system,

The 15% forum discount card for Halfords and physical weight of these kits makes it more favourable and cheaper to purchase in store rather than overseas online shipping charges become expensive due to there bulky package size.

Again many hours can be spent removing panels and running all the cables as tidy as possible from engine bay to the boot compartment door terminating them with a Vibe fast plug socket,

In preparation for the amplifier's as funds allow.

Next item to come off the shopping list will be the double din aftermarket stereo kit available at a fantastic combined price from Dynamic Sounds in the UK complete with manufacturer specific steering stalk patch lead:

http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/ford-focus-2006-double-din-car-stereo-fitting-kit-fascia-steering-control.html?search=ford%20focus%20car%20stereo%20fitting%20kit

Followed by:

2 x DEI Boom Matt 6.5" Baffle's

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301308874480?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D301308874480%26_rdc%3D1

Ford Focus Mk2/2.5 Front Door Speaker adapter kit

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181322863877?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Ford Focus Mk2/2.5 Rear Door Speaker adapter kit:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus-MK2-Rear-Door-Speaker-Adaptor-Kit-Rings-Spacers-165mm-6-5-/261082740273?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3cc9be7631

As you can see a lot of boring footwork has to be done routing cables and connectors before anything shiny and new comes in to play but its definitely worth taking the time to do the ground work and install everything right first time.

My list of brand model is static but ill shop around for the cheapest supplier and chip away at the list as funds allow

I'll keep the thread updated along the way too.

Lenny, went through the list. Only thing I am not sure is the spacers for the rear Speakers. I hacked away my rear Speakers and used the surrounds as mounts. They were identical to the front ones and the Speakers fitted fine. The spacers you linked look quite shallow in depth and the speaker might not fit properly or hit the window glass when it's rolled down. Worth double checking before ordering them :)

Cool mate no worries,

Ill just hack out the existing rear Speakers when the time comes to replace and use the existing surrounds save a few pounds on the process because the DEI boom mat can be put anywhere.

That's what I did and when it comes time to sell the car, I plan on just buying a cheap set of Speakers to fit them in that space. You might get away by doing the same for the fronts if you want to.

Sunny day here. You planning on working on the car?

can't see myself selling the car anytime soon mate think ill go ahead with the adaptors for the front Speakers keep the stock ones spare maybe stick em up on eBay to recycle some funds back in to the project.

Nah mate haven't been working on the car at all,

The weather is fantastic today compared to the down pour we had throughout the night,

I've been up since 3am this morning nah Vicki didn't go in to labour yet,

One of the kids had a cough and woke up the other,

I went downstairs got them some juice,

They then wanted a Barbie dvd on,

I got back to sleep from 03:30-04:05am then got woken up by the kids informing me that the dvd was finished and "is it nearly morning time" so despite me putting on another dvd and requesting that they return to sleep they kept me awake by asking random questions every 3-5 minutes just as you would be nodding off again ugh torture lol

Wouldn't mind but there 5 and 7 years of age..

Don't usually wake up until 8am

Went down newsagents at 9am purchased bubble envelope and sent off the ford bluetooth module via tracked mail,

IMG_20141004_101756_zpsf7dwi2ls.jpg

Then drove down to Halfords to be greeted by whom else but Leonard!!

I was like "dude WTF!!"

Anyways picked up some kit:

2 x 4AWG Vibe Slick Amp wiring kits

1 x Vibe fast plug connector

1 x 5ltr Ready mixed screen wash

Saved myself 13.61 euro today at Halfords thanks to the forum discount card :)

IMG_20141004_170248_zps6glk8mbg.jpg

Then spent the rest of the day going around looking at buggy's and car seat's

beach-buggy-2_zpssragte0g.jpg

B6-frontview_zpsn8afloo4.jpg

Nah seriously the baby type of buggy and car seat's with isofix systems and that sort

3287_zpsnnbtifkk.jpg

I'm home now and completely exhausted,

Going to put the parts in storage and go at it maybe after Christmas,

I've gotta figure out the final location for mounting the amps,

I'm thinking of creating an MDF sheet to span across the back of the rear seats,

Fill it with 4" whole saw cut outs,

Then wrap it in black carpet,

This will give the appearance of a full factory rear seat backing but provide a grid style mounting structure for the amplifier's to mount on to,

Being a sheet it can be easily unplugged via fastplug connection and lifted out if folding down of seats is required,

The holes will be hidden by the carpet covering aswell as allowing the base from the sub pass through,

So i need to finalise that theory before i begin to run the cables just to be 100% sure I'm putting them in the right location first time.
