Any help would be great thanks in advance

Sticky Idle Control Valve mate. Quite common and usually taking it out and giving it a clean will sort it

Thanks mate

where can i find the idle control valve

thanks

I too need to locate the idle control valve.

I beleive on the 1.8 zetec it is on the inlet manifold and needs to be accessed from underneath. Held in place my two 8mm bolts.

However I am unsure if the alternator needs to be removed, this is something I am looking into and will update you if needed.

I have a cold starting problem with my focus and a wierd reving when the clutch is depressed when engine is cold. Do you have any of these symptoms, or is there anyone who could advise me as to what my fault maybe.

I have already replaced PCV hose, fuel filter, spark plugs air filter changed oil throttle position sensor and fuel pressure regulator. The cold start problem still exists my only hope is the idle control valve. Oh yes I forgot to say battery has been checked and HT leads all ok

HELP

it can be accessed by removing either the alternator or the inlet manifold on the 1.8 and 2 litre engines

Hi mate

my car rev`s when the clutch is depressed but i reckon its the idle control valve as mentioned by SY99 and Stef123

as its not returning to idle

it looks as if it will take longer to get access to it than it will to clean and refit the unit

i am not sure what route i will go as i only have a small set of ramps but i dont really want to disurb the inlet manifold

Thanks again Stef

Well I removed the idle control without having to remove the alternator

Cleaned it and refitted but it's still the same

It was better for about five mins and then started the same old routine

Is it possible the unit is knackered or could the fault be elsewhere.

if it was good for 5 mins then id say its still the icv. its probably got dirt stuckin it somewhere.

How much did that cost if you don't mind me asking pal? Just think mine might be starting to do something similar and it's not starting up too great either.

It cost me £50.00

it takes longer to put the car on the ramps than it does to fit the new valve

the unit i removed was jammed

i tried a few times to clean it but i had no joy and ended up buying a new one which has cured it
