They were recommended to me by one of our works mechanics and they are also used on many of our response cars. stef123 Posted March 29, 2013 Share Posted March 29, 2013 have used Avon summer tyres in the past (cannot remember what they were though) but i use Avon winter tyres (ice touring ST) and have done for a couple of years - although i appreciate your probably looking for summer tyres... had no problems with either and both were/are very grippy, low noise and good life span too. I rate Avons quite high and also cost wise they are much better priced than michelins. They were sadly out of my price range and yesterday got 4 Federal SS595 205/50/17 on my car. Today drove about 100 miles from Tullamore to Dublin, motorway mostly and dry. Very happy with them. No more horrible vibration at the wheel and lower road noise. Great grip in the dry. Thanks for the links Dal, If I drove an ST or I was putting over 150bhp on to the road then id fit Eagle F1 too, I've read a lot of good reviews about them when searching goole to find out if I should get a 35 or 40 profile, Going for 40 its the same as the ST profile and as much comfort as possible, Postage would take 3 days from Camskill and cost me around 50GBP so would end up more than quoted, I agree with your thinking and way of planning though, I've purchased all of my parts online mostly from the uk as its cheaper than going to my local ford dealer or motor factors. Will do mate, I'll post an update on my other thread aswell as pictures:http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/38944-19-snow-flake-alloys-fitment-to-16tdci-will-they-fit/ Federal are a good brand too mate, Nothing like a smooth drive on the motorway, nice weather for it too but freezing cold lol I'm on nights next week but fitting the 18" rims on Thursday morning along with some chrome nuts as the ford ones lost their caps adbeame 18mm nuts absolute !Removed!, Not sure if they are AVON ZZ3 mate he just said avon are a good tyre and grip well, my budget was 140euro per tyre and he said they were 135euro including valves, fitting and balance. Eibach lowering and camber adjusters will be fitted in mid May along with a service, Then its modificaton holiday until October. FOCA Posted March 30, 2013 Share Posted March 30, 2013 I used to run Avons a long time ago, they were very good but you don't hear much about them so much on forums etc so much now so i can understand why you had not heard of them They were regarded as a premium (semi "Sports/ performance") brand and "up there" with Goodyear, Dunlop, Michelin etc (for cars and motorcycles) It would not surprise me to find they had been bought over by another, bigger company (like a lot of these brands have ) I run Goodyears in the summer and Vredstiens in the winter i rate both these manufacturers, after having tried different makes, yes, people want different things from there tyres and not everyone is "driving the wheels off" high-performance tyres, i found Perellis to be lite/ easily damaged and Michelins lacking grip (probably because it was "eco" ones i had) Ive got this tyre ive had for years, it is rubbish in the wet and only barely tolerable in the dry, no matter what i do i can't wear it out, i used to sling it on the front left in the dry summers, last year i used the rim it was on but i could not bring myself to throw it out, (still loads of tread on it) its called a "Weslake?" i think its made from a mixture of rubber and concrete (seems that way anyway ) 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Lenny Posted April 28, 2013 Author Share Posted April 28, 2013 I've had the Avon ZZ3 tyres fitted on 18x8 ST rims for around 7 weeks now and my review on the Avons is 8/10 Grip: fantastic, zero wheel spin, all power goes to the road and the tyres stick to the road like glue. Handling: excellent, the car corners much better at speed, doesn't feel wooley or as though the rear would slip. Road noise: the tyre label said 72db feedback, and I've gone from 205/55/R16 to 225/40/R18 so the 15mm lower profile would increas. Road noise in any case, but I must say it is comfortable. Overall I'm very happy with the tyres I'm happy with the grip on the road but I do miss the fuel eco of the previously fitted 205/55/R16 Michelin Primacey tyres. Since fitting the 18's I'm getting 55MPG where I used to get 57MPG rolling 16's That's on a 1.6TDCi 90BHP engine remapped to 120BHP with induction filter upgraded and a catback 2.5" exhaust. Fruit'n'nut Posted February 2, 2014 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Bit of a thread-from-the-dead, but I have tried Avon ZZ3 and Avon ZV5 on both Focus and Mondeo, and don't like either. I find them a bit vague in terms of feel and they wear quickly too (I do most of my mileage on B-roads.) After some experimenting, I found Uniroyal Rainsport 2s to be a good mid-price tyre for the Focus. Lenny Posted June 8, 2014 Author Share Posted June 8, 2014 UPDATE: I've been rolling a set of four Avon ZZ3 since 04th April 13 the rears have plenty of thread left but sadly the front ones are now illegal and need replacing not bad for over a years driving ive done over 40,000Km I went to my local highly recommended tyre fitter to place an order for another two, They informed me that ZZ3 are no longer available, He's ordered me two Avon ZV5 instead says there the new ZZ3, still a bit pricey at 140 euro each fitted. The ZZ3 were 125 euro each fitted, But if they last as long as the old ones should be fine, Focus has its first MOT week after next so needs to be 100% the ZZ3 have been great though, stick to the road like Velcro lateral grip is fantastic too, I've thrown them in to many a bend but they never threw the rear out on me. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
