Mrmark941
Hey! I've not posted in a while and I was having a think. Would it be possible to take the front spotlights off and alloys from an XR3i and put them onto my MKIII Fiesta. I know the alloys won't be hard as obviously it's just a wheel change and then a balance but the Spotlights look so good and I would be wondering if you lot would think it would be hard at all? The wheels: The Spotlights: From looking into this there is the lights and then the mounting brackets, but the wiring just looks like a bare wire? Would this be wired into the source of the main beams as they're not sidelights in any ways. For MOT purposes would this be a fail if I was to do this? Most of all has this been done previously that people know of where I could go for information? Also for insurance purposes will the lighting make it more expensive do people reckon? I know the only true way to find out is to inform my insurance but considering it's only lighting (which in theory will make it saver) but obviously it's a modification.... Many thanks in Advance, Mark S
b1g_dav3
I can't say for a Fiesta, but I do have Classic Mini experience; on my road going Cooper S, I have spot lights, which are wired into the high beams and have had no problems whatsoever. Insurance wise I'm with a classic insurer who doesn't mind modifications like these. It's not too difficult at all really. I'd imagine the wheels just swap over. Thanks for the reply, So what I would have to do is find which wire is the main beams and then splice and solder the lights in? Do you (or anyone who's reading) know if these would replace the main beams in the headlights as having 4 main beams would be a little dazzling.... The reason I say all of this was because we had an Escort RS at my work yesterday and I would have bought it but it was starting to rust and I would never get insured on it because my age (18) and experience (< 1Year) is against me, which is fair enough. I was then looking at the XR3i's and thought that the cars are fairly similar and I could improve the look of my car by doing two simple mods without having to spend out a lot of money. The wheels on my car have the four bolts so all I would need to do is get the alloys balanced to make sure they're right and then stick them on. It's great working at a garage on Sundays! :D
b1g_dav3
They wouldn't replace the high beams already, they'd be as well as. Other option is to wire them to a sseparate switch, but then you're adding a little complexity, but it's not too difficult if you know what you're doing really. Mordey
I fitted Spots on a MK2 escort many years ago . Wired up to the high beams, but the extra load burnt the switch out. Think better way is to go through a relay.

Going to be honest, I don't really know what I'm doing haha. I have some knowledge about cars electrics etc. So you're saying the spotlights are also the main beams so they're ultra bright?! Do you know what current the spotlights need by any chance? I could go through a relay I suppose, but what could I use to trigger it?! Sorry for all the questions but I am thinking the way around this. I can pick them up for £40 including fittings!

I'd imagine it would put something on insurance. But it something I can do to make it look nice, 52,000 miles currently, I'm just going to keep going till she gives way.... Fair enough, just make sure to ask your insurer BEFORE you carry out any work, as it could be huge headache for you down the line if you don't :)

Mrmark941
I have had a word with the seller and they have confirmed it is just the one wire from the lights? This diagram then wouldn't work, any ideas how I would get around this?!
