Window Tint Advise, Is 35% Legal All Side Windows + Rear

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Hopfully getting the windows tinted at the end of April,

I would like to get all side windowscand rear window done in the same tint and 35% looks good.

But I don't understand if

A: 35% tint = 65% light gets through

OR

B: 35% tint = 35% light gets through

Please help and advise me on my legal route,

The irish law says

" The glass in the windscreen and front side windows will be required to have a light transmission level of not less than 65% in order to pass the NCT test. Tinting of these windows must not be greater than 35%.Unfortunately the National Car Testing Regulations do not allow for any exemptions in this regard."

Thanks people,

Hi Lenny

35% would mean 65% light coming through , but i'm sure theres alrady about 17% tint already on the glass , so front you will only be able to addextra 18%

I think lol don't quote me though :)

EDIT*

When i was looking at cars a while back i sat in two cars , one had been tinted and another had factory tints,

The added tints blocked the view where as the factory tints didn't.

I would add your reversing sensors first :) or a camera.

Sorry mate,

I'm goin for front and rear tint so want to get the same level all around,

However I have around 15 images of the climair shades fitted, I'll donate them to you for a thread in the Buy&Sell section of the forum.

Lenny, you're being tucked up over there for tint levels.

Over here you are permitted as dark as you like on rear and rear side windows but 30% maximum tint on windscreen and front side windows.

Just fitted blinds myself as I prefer the ability to remove them when the weather is crap and the beauty is that they are not insurance reportable as they are removable in seconds.

Definitely relying on my reversing sensors more since fitting them though. :d

I don't think you can have anything on the windscreen mate its just front side windows,

The maximum tint on front and windscreen can't be more than 30%.

I believe that those windows are tinted to that level as standard so no additional tinting is permitted.
