I've driven it 1000 miles now with the majority start stop traffic and im on 36MPG. High octane fuels make a huge difference if your car is mapped to fully run on it, particularly with turbo engines, most older engines cant adjust to the higher octane. I am imgining that Ford has mapped it to run on the high octane fuel as its being sold in countries with higher ratings then ours. The knock sensor will just !Removed! the tune to suit if you put lower octane fuels in. A double knock sensor set use 2 sensors 1 either side of the cylinder. More acurate so they can increase the level of tune. I. E more power, better efficiencyI have been using Shell v-power. Book says 53.3, 65.7 and 76.3 mpg for the three cycles and a couple of dealers have said look for around 10% less than these in real life. I would hope for around 55 - 60 overall. Even on a run to Lake Distrct and back we are only getting 48-49 which seems disappointing and 43/4 around town. Have checked average mpg readout against tank to tank calculation and it seems about right Assume at this stage I am an economical driver (I can get 42mpg out of my volvo v70d auto on the same run). Those i have talked to who put super in tend to get more MPG Fords figures are quoted as being done with Bp Ulitmate. Although i personal dont use that stuff. Worth trying Super because if you see the same increase i did after putting in V-power you'l be at your 10% for town driving. For the trip to the lake district, was the car loaded up at all? Personally i havent taken much notice of the motorway figures as i cant see there being enough torque to get it if you have a heavy car at motorway speed, that diesels selling point. chubbz Posted May 15, 2013 Share Posted May 15, 2013 Afternoon all, first post here. My friend and I bought a Fiesta Zetec 1.0 Ecoboost about a month ago. We've both gone roughly the same distance (about 1200 miles) most of those miles from long motorway journeys and we're averaging between us about 45mpg, now this whilst this isn't bad mileage its nowhere near what Ford advertised (65.7mpg average, 53.3mpg urban, 76.4 extra urban). Now I'm aware that official MPG figures are always exaggerated surely getting roughly 65% of their estimate amounts to false advertising? I never expected 100% but somewhere around the 84% mark. I'm sure its not my driving being uneconomical as I've got 'full marks' on the eco performance whatsit on the dashboard and I've even earned myself a nice little on screen trophy for my advanced eco driving prowess. I've checked honest John and it seems this is the average for the car. Now I've been reading on here for a while that it takes a while to 'break the engine in' in order to gauge a more realistic mileage figure, but what are the chances of the car getting an extra 10mpg or more and how long does it take to get to a more accurate figure? What kind of MPG are you guys getting if you don't mind me asking? I called Ford today about it and they recommended I take it back to the dealer and get them to check there is nothing wrong with the car, I think its safe to say there won't be, and it'll be a bit of a waste of time to take it there in order for them to tell me that the car is fine and its just a case of Ford inflating their mileage claims, but if this is the case is no one else going to look for any form of compensation? I've seen people on here mention their MPG on this car and seem to be quite happy with it, and I'm happy with the car, I love the way it drives and a lot of things about it but the MPG claims surely amount to false advertising and being sold a car on worthless claims of exceptional mileage. Is anyone else feeling the same and what do you intend to do about it, if anything? This is the first brand new car I've ever bought and though I'm very happy with the car itself I bought the car because of the economy advertised. b1g_dav3 Posted May 15, 2013 Share Posted May 15, 2013 I just had a 1.0 Ecoboost for 3 days whilst mine went in for repainting, had 620 miles on it and I was getting 46.4mpg around town with 51.7mpg on 3 motorway runs which isn't so bad comparing to their original figures, but you're never going to hit their mpg whatever you do, 40's are to be unexpected I'm afraid. So far the average mpg is around 42/43 mpg. A mixture of short to medium journeys, no motorways yet. The main reason for my post is the Ecomode option. From what others are saying, this is available and gives your personal economy performance. So far so good. My problem is that this Ecomode option is greyed out and cannot be selected. I have the ZS TDCi, and did a tank on the Sainsburys stuff since it was at a rock bottom price. Whilst bearing in mind i have only had my car 2-3 weeks, i did a full tank range for 445 miles with 52 53.5 mpg averaging. Well i then saw an Esso gas station even cheaper, so filled up there when the tank was empty again, and as of last night, the trip miles showed 498 miles and 56.7 mpg... Both driven on the same journey, at the same rate of knots.... Hmmm.... Car bedding in tank by tank? Or was it because what was in the tank was better grade and not cheap stuff? I was not impressed with the fuel consumption around town at home about 35ish but according to the car's computer I managed to achieve 57mpg for the trip back to the Midlands using the M5 and A30 at a steady 2000 rpm - no complaints from me! Usually roughly £58 to fill once the light comes on I didn't buy the Ecoboost to save money, was going to upgrade to the 1.4l but the Ecoboost made it a no brainer to go for it instead Improvement over my old 1.25 by 7-8 mpg and looking at 400-410 miles per tank. Computer always reads 380 when full but stays there for loads of miles on mine before starting to count down. Personally i am saving £30ish per 380miles compared to my old 2.0tdci. I'm routinely getting better than 50mpg on my round trip to work (10 miles each way, mixed urban & motorway). I can get that trip up to 55mpg, but I have to work at it! On a leisurely weekend trip of around 400 miles (mostly A-roads and motorway) I achieved over 60mpg average. This was with 2 people in the car and a load of luggage. 500 miles on a tank is definitely achievable. It's definitely all about how the car is driven. The gear ratios still feel very weird to me but I'm gradually getting more used to them. I get a feeling that once you have got the car up to speed, you can often back right off on the throttle and it purrs along almost as if there is no friction. Higher speeds (e.g. above 70mph) knocks the consumption up quickly though. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
