New Car Care

Hi everyone

I'll be picking up my first ever brand new car which also happens to be my first Ford on Friday. I just need a little advice on 'running in' and oil changes.

I realise that cars in this day and age don't need the extensive running in that they used to but I'm getting conflicting answers in how I should treat my new car. Additionally I've been told I should get the oil changed after 20 miles (yes, 20!) and again at a 1000.

Any advice would be much appreciated! :)

I would just take it easy for the first 1000 miles. I don't mean drive like a granny, but don't overly stress the engine and gearbox. You find ex rep cars are often oil burners as a result of being ragged from new.

Also avoid braking hard for the first 200 miles to allow the brakes to bed in. If they get cooked early on you will find you get a lot of vibration when braking from high speeds.
