I used magic this time and in less than 10 minutes the thing was in and they car back together. (Personally I didn't remove the wipers/panels as there is more than enough space).

10/10 for not having to remove the panels mate,

Maybe easier to do it this way after seeing pictures of what's in there so then you know what your feeling,

I couldn't have done it blind fold personally,

Fitted mine the weeekend, I removed all the wipers and trims etc and was all back together with EGR blanked 20minutes later. A noticable different alright a great throttle response and picks up quicker wohooo :)

Lenny A++ for the guide mate

No problem mate,

Glad you fitted and are happy with the results,

Your oil won't get as dirty the next time you change it which will also help your turbo oil feed line from cloging

On the next oil change; to best ensure your clearing out the sludge, use a can of ''wynnes engine flush'' and follow thee instructions on the tin,

You put it in 5-10minutes prior to oil change and it breaks down the sludge prior to draining the sump,

I've used it before on two cars and its amazing what it flushes out,

Its a liquid substance in a can around the size of a red bull and costs under 10 even in Halfords ;)

I did this on the CMAX and it made me want to cry! for anyone out there, who like me, thinks that the Focus CMAX is actually a Focus and should have the same engine... you may wish to reconsider that notion...

Please explain in more detail,

Are you suffering from emotional stress which may not be ford related?

Why did fitting an EGR blanking plate make you want to cry, did you catch your finger?

The cmax 1.6TDCi engine is the same 90bhp model that ford fit to the fiesta and focus,

The main purpose of fitting an EGR blanking plate is to prolong the life of the engine and turbo by preventing the induction of waste gasses for re-combustion, of which it does in its entirety on every diesel engine.

Now I must add that people including myself; have found additional benefits such as increased MPG, increased lower torque, and slightly higher exhaust tone,

These additional benefits are not guaranteed to be experienced by absolutely everyone because everyone drives their vehicle differently and may have fitted additional modifications that help achieve new figures along with EGR blanking.

I've never driven a Cmax but on paper a 90bhp people carrier weighing almost 2500kg

Your not likely to feel much difference in low end torque and I repeat the main purpose of EGR blanking is to prolong engine life by preventing the recirculation of waste gases, which it does without a doubt.

May I suggest a remap from 90-115 or a turbo upgrade Garrett GT1544V straight swap to existing pipes/flanges will bring the base figure up to 110bhp spec then remap it to 145bhp would then be a responsive vehicle.

It was a nightmare, lol, emotional stress, sunstroke, cuts, grazes and lots of blood (the joys of thin blood!) amongst other things...

Mine is the 110bhp so I think its different, but the difficulty is that I could follow your guide almost to the letter to the point of finding the EGR valve. It was tucked in underneath the fuel filter area, where you couldnt get a good visual on it (the passenger wiper arm is split into to so that it can elavate to get more of the screen, the second prong is almost right above the EGR, so you can only even look at the EGR from the side above the fuel filter.

The fuel filter wasnt coming out easy and due to the heat, and I expect the much oil that is splattered over the engine bay, I couldnt find a way to remove it, so couldnt see the EGR properly, and spent the entire time working by nothing more than touch, trying to pull the EGR valve back, fit the plate whilst feeling for the distance between the EGR and the fuel filter, guiding it, pushing the bolt through to fit into the groove, moving the plate to fit in there appropriately, it was almost impossible. The Haynes manual was anything but clear in removing the housing so I couldnt follow that, and no one online had any present photo's for my 110 engine as you have got for yours, so it was working entirely by myself on a gamble!

Its fitted anyway, and when I took it for a harsh drive this morning there was no smoke and the car was more responsive at least, however after it sitting in the sun for an hour in 26 degrees, the thing has started smoking again, I can only assume this is the remaining soot in the cat thats coming out under pressure, if not I have a bigger problem than I thought!

Experience! now if you were to do it again it would be done in 20 mins no doubt, lack of visibility, confidence can make this harder than it is, after a week or two you will think well that was actually easier than i thought lol

Lenny your guide good mate no need to worry.

Is there a straight swap turbo for power gain on the focus lenny? Considering remapping but so far the power gains from that alone doesn't seem like it will quite satisfy me once started hunting for power

Those who have the 90bhp 1.6TDCi can upgrade turbo to the 110bhp model

But if you have a 110bhp already then your only option is to get it custom rebuilt with a bigger cartridge making it a hybrid turbo.

Most you will reach is 150bhp without methanol injection

And for that you need to rebuild the engine with Teflon seals because methanol will eat rubber.

I considered it - it would cost about £1000 for the kit, the tank could sit in the spare wheel well - i might have to beef up the trans some more - alreasdy got a solid flywheel / uprated carbon fiber clutch/ and traction is a problem as it is! - tempting though

There is an LPG trader on here, when i asked about fitting LPG to my diesel, he could not see an advantage/ point in doing it to a diesel (all that extra power is the point!- i think he was looking at it from purely an economy perspective)

Ive got a complete lpg system in my shed MMMMMMMM, tank is still full of gas, its setup for a vag 1.8 20vT. all we need now is a mad scientist and the rest will be history LOL.

Im not fitting it to mine, it would not end well LOL, it would be the fastest 1.6 tdci right up to the point it blew its head clean through the bonnet. , anyway I am trying to act my age and not my shoe size hence the sensible focus estate, then I came across this but I must resist:

Aw sweet,

Wouldn't cost that much to complete that RS replica to be honest mate do it for under 1,000 pounds excluding alloys and lowering

Probably looking at a duplex exhaust addition too.

If I made mine look like that it would have to go like that too, so 1 crashed damaged car later there I would be with crap Mpg and acting my shoe size and not my age again, LOL No must not turn to the dark side, I love BBs Ch wheels :(

Well over-steer is bad enough in a 5 door so no point even trying to chicane an estate like an RS lol

Can I just ask.

If this EGR is so detremental to the engine/turbo etc then why do manufacturers install them in the first place?

Noob question I know.... :D

The purpose of the egr is to be more economical and reduce emissions by recirculating the exhaust waste gases for re-combustion,

So its purpose it to help environmentally,

But on the flip side, blanking increases the exhaust pressure flow thus increasing the turbos spool time which also makes the car more efficient as you now push less to get up speed,

If I was a car manufacturer I'd fit them too because I know it will in time mess up your engine and as a car manufacturer I'd be more than happy to supply you the replacement parts again and again. ;)

If you build something that never breaks you will soon go out of business.

Thanks for that. Makes perfect sense!

On the strength of what you have said and your explanations with step by step instructions, I have ordered from the link you provided and will attempt to fit the s/s blanking plate myself when it arrives.

I will be having my DPF removed (internally) and deleted with an ecconomy remap after removal too so I should see some decent performance/economy gains when it gets done.... :)

Glad to be of assistance,

You will notice a slightly more positive feel immediately after blanking the egr,

But the huge increase will be when you remap the engine.

I too would like to get the dpf internally removed but local specialist would prefer to manufacture a straight pipe replacement instead,

This won't make any difference to the end result except that it would be clearly visible "its gone"

I'm in search of a place that will do as I ask and remove the internals then refit the chamber not a straight pipe.

Time to learn to weld Lenny, remove cut square hole in top with grinder with 1mm cutting disk, smash the insides out, then weld plate back in and refit, then off for DPF software delete Simples.

And wear a proper respirator or you'll have a few health problems after disturbing all the nasty particles when youve smashed the insides out! ;)

Youre welcome Lenny.

I honestly cant wait to have the DPF sorted! No worries about limp modes and regen issues or costly replacements! :)

Everybody raves about the performance and economy increase after having this done.

The place im getting it done have promised to try their best to keep the internals intact for me (wrapped tightly in a sealed bag) so that in the highly unlikely case of me needing to put it back, ive always got it there as a back up.

I suggested a through pipe go them but they insisted on keeping the DPF casing intact for MOT (visual) purposes....

Hope you can get them to do as you ask!!
