Having made a right hash of trying to fit mine (Fiesta), I look at what I was doing and if there was an easier way of achieving the same thing. The main issue was the lower bottom bolt, with limited clearance and a snowballs chance in hell to refit if it fell out, maked life very difficult for myself and my fat fingered friends.

So it occurred to me while I had the EGR pipe in my hands is that since us Fiesta peeps are blanking the left hand side of the vent pipe (picture below 9D477A), why not blank both the EGR exit and inlet entrance with a plate and remove the pipe altogether and the need for an awkward contortionist act. All it needs is someone who has an A in metal work to shape the plates and make a buck or too.

Granted there are those have had no issues fitting the plate in the normal way but my life would have so much easier this way.

Your thoughts?

Ive got the job of implementing 5's in the workplace starting with the consumable stores,

I was told "anything we don't use chuck it out"

So I got consent to remove some 3mm high grade Stainless steel oval plates

A total of 45 plates

They measure

75mm longest point of oval

48mm at the widest point of oval

3mm thick

Ideal for egr blanking if shaped

Thanks foca,

I've got 50 in total but I'm keeping 5 for when I figure out how to blank the egr on the exhaust side,

I'll create a plate to fit.

I've checked the using a magnet and it doesn't stick to them at all,

So they are 100% high grade 3mm stainless :)

That's the metal sorted, just need the plate measurements for the inlet.

Well the blanking plate I ordered didn't arrive at work through the week so my "big project" wont be happening this weekend. :(

When I say, "big project", you will all probably laugh but it really is for me....

Have never tinkered with or installed anything into an engine before (especially my own engine) and it is a daunting task!

Thing is, its something I really want to start doing so ive gotta learn at some point and I think fitting a blanking plate is as good a place to start as any.

Have bought a decent socket set for the job which is a great investment I think for future alterations etc etc just need the ruddy plate now!! :(

Seems like you're having the same access issues I had with mine Bailey. Was a pig to do.

It was the water pipe below causin the most grief, had to undo the screw below that to force it down so I could use a short socket to push the bolt in.

Would have been much easier without the egr pipe in the way.

Glad to be of assistance,

You will notice a slightly more positive feel immediately after blanking the egr,

But the huge increase will be when you remap the engine.

I too would like to get the dpf internally removed but local specialist would prefer to manufacture a straight pipe replacement instead,

This won't make any difference to the end result except that it would be clearly visible "its gone"

I'm in search of a place that will do as I ask and remove the internals then refit the chamber not a straight pipe.

Hello Lenny great grea tutorial im looking into makeing i,bu i have a 2.0 Tdci Focus 2006 model canyou suggest me a blaking plae from eBay please?Do you have any info were is locaed EGR on my model?and last question about the DPF remove why you dont like the strait pipe replacement?Doesn i work? Why you prefer he old DPF to get internals and than refited?or maby just fro visuals i gues??Thank you for all you great tutorials !!

It wont pass an MOT without a DPF...the test is visual

So the theory is that it would pass an MOT if you just had the internals of the DPF removed with remap to suit thrn just the empty casing reinstalled?

Thats assuming your emissions don't go through the roof and it fails an emissions test.....

Diesel engines are not tested for emissions. The only test done on the exhaust is a visusl check for all three boxes, silencer, dpf, cat. And a smoke test. The smoke test is visual although it can be done by equipment but not required if excessive smoke can clearly be seen.

Removing the internals and refitting it means a pass as there isn't really any test to check if the dpf is actually working. With the egr blanked the car will produce less soot than normal anyways

Im glad it will pass as I need the DPF deleting as it keeps throwing up code P2002 all the time.

Think the previous owner only did stop/start journeys as I do plenty of miles on motorways to help regen.

Fitting a blanking plate very soon too.... :)

There is a performance/ efficiency advantage in blanking the EGR at both ends - the bits you want to stay cool (the inlet) stays cool and the bits you want o stay hot (the exhaust) stays hot - it may also reduce the heat losses/ volume between the exhaust valves and turbo - reducing lag/ helping the turbine spool up quicker - altogether potentially improving the performance economy - the reliability can be improved too, as there is less to go wrong

Ive ran a total EGR delete on my Mondeo for a few years now - there is a noticably performance improvement - some of the inlet components have been changed to improove flow though

If you can do it go for it - its probably well worth while
