no all images are host on photobucket then linked to specific locations on the guide between text, at present they dont display for reasons stated in above post, the only backup i have access to is email copys of all my guides but they are all the text with photobucket image codes,

just the same as what you see here on the forum,

if you were to quote the guide it will give you the same as my email backups,

Also if there's so many benifits to blanking the EGR and no downsides why dont ford just do this????

In short: the car manufacturers make a living on replacing the items which the EGR causes to break prematurely,

If i was in the car manufacturing business id fit them too, if i dont sell new cars illl still make loads replacing blown turbos and carbon caked oil sump pans.

Have you upgrade your induction filter yet?

How long ago since you've blanked?

Out of interest does anyone know the likelihood of any errors, or lights showing up on my engine - It's got Stage IV emissions - no mention of a dpf (and I actually believe the previous owner told me it didn't have one, although at the time I didn't know what one was so it went in one ear and out the other)..

It's a 1.6L Duratorq TDCi (90PS) on a 57reg focus...

Not sure if it is literally just hit and miss or whether there are those that are more susceptible to problems.

Also...IF any lights etc did arise, could I just reverse everything and it'd go back to normal?

My engine is a Euro 5 emissions vehicle and ive never had an error,

The emissions system gets more intelligent each time they release it,

So Euro 6 may be able to detect egr blanked on the 1.6TDCi but euro 5 doesn't i reckon you wont have any problems with euro4 atall since euro5 is cool with it,

Now should an error ever appear on your car for anything,

Once displayed it becomes logged in the cars memory,

The car then displays this error forever until being reset via a diagnostic scanner such as an ELM327

Even if the error is no longer a valud issue, once logged the car displays the ELM (Engine Management Light) until redet,

So the only way to easily check if the problem has gone away is to reset the error,

I cant see the EGR blanking plate creating any issues on your 1.6TDCi though.

Just thought its a good time to explain the operations of the system.

That's brilliant Lenny thanks. So basically, it's always a good idea to get one of those modified ELM cable watchamadoodles then? At least that way, IF for any reason I ended up with an EGR fault code, I could remove the plate, reset the error and everything would be (should be) hunky dory?

Yes :)

If an error were to appear, leave the blanking plate in place dont remove the blanking plate atall,

Just reset the error each time is comes up,

It will stop after 3-4 times and wont return, gets used to being blanked,

Ive never saw or heard of an eml after blanking a 1.6TDCi though,

Best to get a wired elm327 this will read and clear errors,

It can also be modified following this guide while still functioning as a diagnostic scanner you can use it to program various features to your car

See guide:

EGR plate arrived today, won't be fitting it for a couple days now though. I have a long day and long drive tomorrow night and the last thing I need is any lights or problems popping up (even if it is rare). Might fit it Weds afternoon or something - we'll see.

Oh, I mean 'try and fit it'

Reminds me of the Guinness advert from the mid 90's when the began to put it in bottles,

The guy ordered a pint,

Then stood dancing around it for ages,

Taking a drink when the music stopped,

Idea being Guinness in a bottle, you can dance with it

But in your case you ordered a blanking plate and now your dancing around it lol

Sorry

Lol, well I want to put it in, but it's gonna be a long drive with a fully loaded car and IF something happens and I get an eml come on, I know a certain fiancée who is going to be more than unimpressed with the scenario!!

Plus my patience wears thin when I'm tired XD

Thats exactly what I did two weeks ago. I put EGR plate two days before vacation. But everything went fine. I was happy, wife was happy but you never know what can happen. I just want to do it badly and I had friend for help either... whatever you decide I am giving you support.

BTW Lenny some guys here keep telling me that I need to turn off EGR function with software, cause EGR valve is still wants to move. So it's electronics parts will die soon or latter. What do you think?

Lol I know you're having a laugh Lenny, I only meant that with a late trip, arriving in the UK at 10pm at the earliest - with no doubt another 30-40 mins wasted, we'll probably only get on a decent road by about 11 then it's a bit of a repetitive 200+ miles to go, so last thing I need is to call out a tow truck or something

I did Civil Engineering at university so I think there is definitely an inbuilt 'methodical be prepared' sort of process...

...plus there is also my fiancée who would take great pleasure in telling me I shouldn't have been playing with the engine

I'm really desperate to fit it though, judging by all the reports, it's a good step!

Hi Paul,

Yes you can mate,

The 1.6TDCi engine is the same in Cmax, focus and fiesta, even a Citröen Picasso, Citröen Berlingo, or Peugeot 206, Peugeot partner all the same 1.6TDCi or 1.6HDi engine,

img0269cl-1.jpg

12669hh-1.jpg

funbrd-1.jpg

Only differences found are the 90bhp and 110bhp models which differ in fuel injectors and turbo size,

Easily swap them over aswell popular modification with fiesta owners fitting 110bhp parts can then remap it to 150bhp with 58mpg roll that coal!

Anyway back on topic

You may have more room to access the egr without removing as many panels, and after blanking the EGR i highly recommend fittimg an upgrade straight swap induction filter: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/36783-green-cotton-performance-induction-filter-fitting-guide/

No problem Paul always happy to help mate,

Another modification that will smooth power on gear change is a straight swap induction filter upgrade

See guide here for link to purchase aswell as discount Code and independent reviews from fellow members,

Your filter is most likely a panel rather than a cylinder both are available on the website,

Heres the guide:

http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/36783-green-cotton-performance-induction-filter-fitting-guide/

Does your model have a dpf?

You may consider having it gutted and remapped by MFK Auto Care,

They now provide a nation wide service gutted mine so the chamber is still there for visual inspection on NCT cut open on the factory weld and rejoined so all appears stock, no smoke and lower emissions :)

Finally then Ford Owners Club are having there first ever Ford meet in Ireland this Saturday 06th September at AirSide Retail Park Swords Co.Dublin if you can make it see thread here mate:

On the exhaust below your turbo you will see a large chamber looks like a miniature Amerasian tank with pipes and sensors attached to it,

As for Dublin i get lost too mate,

But four years ago i went to Argos and bought myself a tomtom XL satnav,

Best €120 I've ever spent has taken me on tour many times most accurate satnav I've ever used in my life,

Only time it ever put me wrong was coming out of knock heading on to the motorway it told me to turn right, had i done that:

Id be head on into double lane oncoming traffic

Apart from that one occasion its 100%

I don't expect you to drive over from Sligo just for a ford meet mate, just thought you might be interested this is the first in Ireland but there will be another one around June next year in another location around the country,

Perhaps you could help us host it next year :)

Just say yes we will attend :)

Holla.

Quick question regarding fitting the EGR plate. I had to go buy a 5/16 socket to loosen that bolt. I then tried to loosen the bolt but no luck.

This is what I bought from the shop. Am I doing something wrong here or just plain stupid? Any help would be appreciated as I have dismantled the car bits 3 times already :(

Draper are a good enough manufacturer mate,

Abd if the socket fits tight on the bolt shouldn't be a problem,

In some cases try to tighten then try removing,

This can sometimes help

Or

Slide your wheel brace over the wrench handle this will give you a longer handle allowing you to apply more torque with less effort

My problem is actually funny. The socket just feels loose over the bolt. I even tried different sizes but no luck. The bolt on top of the nut is quite long and I wonder if that is making things difficult. I will have to take it all apart tomorrow after work and see if I can get anywhere. Btw, for anyone doing this, leave the car to cool down for a few hours before attempting this as I nearly got burnt today :P
