smartestsmarty
Hello all, I purchased a Ford Fusion, everything is great with the car, but the rear boot will not open without manually inserting the key. I can't open it by pressing the button on the key fob, or the button inside the car. Can anyone give me any suggestions why this might be? and how to fix it? Also, if anyone could tell me where the fuse box is and the fuse number for the boot, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
hubby1959
It sounds like a fuse, (Sorry can't help you with that one), or possibly the boot release solenoid that's at fault, the only way to tell is to get to the electrics at the solenoid and use a test meter to see if there is power to it when the dash button or remote button are pressed
Gombal
The fusebox is behind the glovecompartment, open the glovecompartment, push the sides in en open it further. At the back of the glovecompartment is a sticker with the fuseplan. (At least thats the fact on a LHD vehicle, guessing it's the same in a RHD ;) )
apn
Have exactly the same problem with the wifes car (it may be my daily runner a-b/work mule soon so I will try and get round to fixing all the stuff she doesn't tell me about until black smoke is coming out of it). Think it must be the solenoid in my case as you can hear the 'schnick' (or whatever sound a solenoid makes) but it's too weak to pop the boot. Any ideas how to find it? Presumably in the spare wheel well or thereabouts?
Gombal
If you look at the picture it looks like there's a electric motor in the boot lid itself. So the easiest thing to do is remove the plastic on the inside, close the boot while sitting in the boot and try to open it with the knob/remote control key. If anything moves you can see what is happening.
DragonSiw
Hi there all. My Fusion has just today done the very same thing. It was ok when I went out this morning, but, by the time I came back. Not only can I not get into the boot with the master key. It won't let me in via the dash board push button mechanism. I know this may sound a little silly, but, I didn't know that the boot release would have its own fuse ? Yours as always Dragon Siw.
Jabbitt
Hi all, new member here! I've got this same problem today. The boot latch won't open via button or key fob. I can press the button and see the latch move slightly but not enough to open the lock. The boot will still open via the key as normal. Using this site and others, it looks like a new solenoid is needed which if it's the right part can be bough for around £20 on eBay. My embarrassing, I'm not a mechanic, question is, how do you remove the boot trim so I can check for part numbers. I removed the three screws but the plastic is till firmly in place. I presume there are plastic clips somewhere that need an extra pull? I didn't want to pull too hard as I'm afraid of breaking something. If I can fix this problem myself I'll be well chuffed. fusionfan2
Haynes manual says there are some plastic clips once you remove the 3 screws. In my experience, easy to break these kind of Ford trim clips! Have a go and hope for the best!?
Mike70
Remove the 3 screws from the tailgate trim and then lever around the edge to release the spring clips and then the trim cover can be taken off so that you can see the release mechanism. The lock is operated by either of two Bowden cables - one from the keyhole and one from the release motor. Try using the remote button on the key to see if the release motor is making an effort to pull the Bowden cable. Mine was just not moving the Bowden cable enough to spring the lock and so I have ordered a new release motor to see if that solves the problem.
Mike70
Further to my post on 13 July, where having taken the tailgate trim off, I could see that the release motor was not moving the Bowden cable enough to spring the lock, I ordered a new release motor from FordParts UK (www.fordpartsuk.com). I have just fitted the new motor - very easy just two bolts and the wiring connector, and it works perfectly. 3
DragonSiw
Hi Mike, Siw here. I have the same problem so could you do me a little favour an let me know roughly how much was the release motor please. Every time I went onto the site you mention an type in release motor in various forms it won't find one. If you could let me know it would be most helpful. Mike70
Go to the website www.fordpartsuk.com and then go down the list of vehicles and click on Fusion and then where it says enter Keyword - type in tailgate release motor. I paid £49.35 plus £4.00 p&p plus £10.67 VAT making a total of £64.02. Not particularly cheap but good to have it working properly again. Robroy 3352
Does the tailgate release solenoid have a relay somewhere? Thanks
Paulkp
Solenoid controlled directly from GEM, according to Haynes.
