Nathan_M
Since the summer popped its head through the clouds i have been trying the AC, however there is no rpm increase or cooling fan running, although with the button on you can hear the compressor humming very quietly, so do i need a re-gas or is this problem related to the cooling fan on the rad, as i have never seen or heard it spin since i got the car 6 months ago? FOCA
Seems like an obvious question but does the AC actually cool the air coming out of the heater? The radiator fan should come on when you put the AC on (it does on mondeos, anyway) i wonder if a fault in the fan circut (fuse, connector etc) could stop thr AC working? Does the radiator fan ever come on at all (even in traffic/ hot weather)? - perhaps you should check this out/ sort it before it becomes a problem/ causes more problems if it has not been regassed for a while it is probably due one, Halfords was doing it at a low price
Nathan_M
I just remembered reading somewhere that if the system is under gassed it will stop its self from coming on, although the air is a little colder with the AC on than with just cold blower, and I don't think I have really ever expected the fan to come on otherwise, I either do short journeys with hardly anystops or longer ones at higher speeds meaning it probably shouldn't have come on anyway, the temp gauge never goes past 2 and a touch (digital dash) and I would have thought that they would have forced the fan on when my water pump was changed while filling it up with coolant or am I wrong? FOCA
I just remembered reading somewhere that if the system is under gassed it will stop its self from coming on, ? Yes, i think there is a pressure sensor that if the refrigerant drops below a certain pressure the system does not come on On the Mondeo the radiator fan switches on (automatically) when the AC is switched on If you get someone to switch the AC on when the engine is running, if you are standing where you can see the AC pump, (with the bonnet open!) you should be able to see/ hear the clutch engage on the AC pump Its a bit of a specialist subject and definately not my area of expertise, - i even removed my AC system - but even if you can eliminate what is not wrong with it
Nathan_M
Just wondering how to force the fan to act to prove that it actually works, it's not really the AC that bothers me, I also read on an other forum from a Google search that someone with the 1.4 used an obd app that registered 109 degrees before the fan would click, and my temp gauge never goes over the centre as I said before even if left idling for 10 minutes in the sun, sounds common that the temp gauge is a bit lazy though on the digi dash fiesta's. *went in the garage on the way home today he checked the data for the fan start in an autodata book. It said 105 degrees is low speed cut in, he also recommended that as it has never been done a re gas is what is needed, and the fan doesn't operate with the AC because the AC isnt even engaging so it looks like I was having my 6 monthly panic about everything. Nathan_M
Booked it in for a pressure test and re gas they are going to throw some gas in to test the compressor etc as its not working currently, do Wednesday night I will post the damage. Nathan_M
Tonights new problem *sigh* this morning on the way to work and on the way home, just after starting a clicking noise is eminating from the belt side of the engine, it soon goes away within a couple of minutes and doesnt return again, im thinking that the belt is still a touch tight and not fully stretchied yet as this noise wasnt present before unless the squeek drowned it right out? Otherwise im thinking the good old tappety tap that most ford engines make perhaps a gunky bit of oil somewhere. Will see what happens in the morning i gave it a birthday and came the longer way home AC is working well now atleast.
Tynesider
I have a new Fiesta zetec 1.25 and noticed that the AC comes on automatically when i start my car. I didn't realise this was happening until my wife told me the engine was loud when stationary. I can turn it off but if I shouldn't have to do this everytime I start my car. It is normally if you have the temperature control set to the coldest and/or have the directional selector on de-mist i believe, try looking through the manual im sure i have read it in my book for the old girl, and im sure dads mk2 focus does it so that is probably it.
