Ford Fiesta 1.25 Induction Kit?

Hi,

Basically signed up to this to ask a few questions now and in the future. I have a Ford Fiesta 1.25L Style 2004 model. I'm looking to buy a K&N induction kit. I'm wanting the car to sound better than it does despite only being 1.25. Just wondering if the kit will fit onto my car, and what other benefits, if any, it will have. I know the basics about the induction kit i'm just wondering if it will provide me with slightly more power (as this is what some people say) and keep my engine cleaner than normal.

cheers

You can't go far wrong with a k&n panel filter and a ported airbox for induction sound and cleaner air refinement.

Hello and welcome!

Pipercross panel filter -

K&N -

I would just stick the panel filter in, if any warm/ hot air is drawn from under the bonnet you are likely to loose power, (cooler air = denser air = more oxegen per-cc = more power / warmer air= less power (into engine air intake)) and the car comes with a cold air intake built-in, and the stock intake is designed to boost low- end power (resonator/ tuned length) and the 1.25 shares the same intake as the 1.4L and 1.6L, (so its good enough for the 1.6)

And unless you really know what you are doing, best to leave well alone (you may get more noise, but not more power), if you "must" add plenty cold air feed/s and don't bypass the filter

A replacement panel filter is regarded as a "consumable" so no need to pay more for insurance (allegedly)

Thanks alot for the reply, if i fit the panel filter in, will I notice a difference in the noise at all? And are they easy to fit? If they are easy to fit I would just do it myself, I do have people in my family who would know how to do it, but I'd rather take it upon myself if possible.

Cheers

Go to euro car parts .com type in your reg and all the inductions for your car will pop up.

I fitted my k&n cold air induction just over a month ago and I love it!

(Induction is my avatar/dp)

Has such a nice sound and is a real eye turner!

One of the only cars I've seen/heard round where I live that sounds good with out a huge exhaust hanging off it!

Picked mine up for just over £100

Good luck mate!

Cleaner air refinement? - apart from the oil they coat a K&N with, which can contaminate the MAF sensor

In all my years of using panel filters I've never seen that happen :)

Well, i guess you learn something new every day!. In some applications, (for some cars/ engines) K&N suppied a "foam" type dry filter (like a Pipercross) instead of the traditional oiled cotton filter because the oil came off the filter and contaminated the MAF sensor

The MAF can be delicate and prone to being damaged, or a thin coating of oil from the K&N could stop it working properly, (potentially causing incorrect air/ fuel ratio and damage to the catalytic converter)

This could happen when the K&N is new or when the K&N is re-oiled, by the user (especially if it is over-oiled) This happened to some motorists in the USA (K&N is an American company) and made K&N have to withdraw their filter for some applications (cars) ie - where the MAF is close to the filter (or as above, produced a "dry" filter for these applications )

The K&N has to be cleaned (with special fluid) and re-oiled with K&N oil (you can buy it from K&N) every so often (its only a "washable" filter, it does not last forever without cleaning, you cannot just put it in and forget it, as some seem to do) otherwise a new, stock paper filter would outperform it (by a big margin) - i would be very, very careful not to over-oil it

K&N filters can contaminate MAF sensors without the motorist/ mechanic etc being aware of the problem, (when it happens it may be blamed on something else eg - faulty MAF) K&N themselves are aware of the problem, (hence the special "dry" filters in some applications) some engineers/ tuners etc,(its well known in certain circles) and now you :)

I've used K&N, Jetex and Green Cotton, excess oil can damage them but i'm sure Jabbasport who carry out the servicing always clean and bake them to soak some of the oil out, VAG cars a famous for eating MAFs and i've only had one replaced, that was on our TT and prior to it having the Green cotton filter.
