Clunking/knocking Sound When Turning Steering Wheel

Hi I'm new to this forum and just looking to see if anyone else has had a similar issue.

I own a (2000) Ford Focus and only recently I have started hearing a clunking/knocking sound from under the car... after checking everything I could, I have now found that the sound comes when I turn the steering wheel from side to side... Particularly when going at a slow speed or turning round a corner.

Can anyone advise? I fancied trying to find out the answer before I handed the car into the garage!

Thanks

Last time I had this on a Polo it was a snapped front spring.

It will either be droplinks or ball joints however on the mk1 it coukd be the steering rack has gone its quite common

Is the steering rack a costly job?

Is there anything I can do to identify this before handing over to the garage?

Thanks all.

you wont see much change from £500-£700 depending on rates either way its suspension or steering related so needs diagnosed by a mechanic if youre lucky its just a worn ball joint

I had a similar issue on my old Fiesta. I took it to the garage and I'd completely snapped the front right spring. But after they replaced it I still got a slight clunking sound.
