1.6L Duratec-16V Ti-VCT hi thinking of getting one of theses

what I would like to no is if the Ti-VCT goes wrong is it dear to fix and can it be done at home or dealer thanks

yes its dear to fix no it cant be done at home a new cam with a new timing belt kit when the ti vct goes wrong specialist timing tools needed and to be plugged into diagnostics before the car can be driven given all ford now have the ti vct its not something you can avoid its hit or miss as to wether there will be an issue if the oils done every 6 months it should be fine its a wearable part the cam so its expected to need replaced eventually

haven driven one no they are too underpowered and sluggish if im being totally honest like i said the ti vct may or may not go if you get an aftermarket warranty youll be sorted average price to fix the vct system is around £400 including the new belt and tensioners despite having had the issue and having the cam done ide still buy another ti vct

the ti vct has the same power as the 1.8 however the 1.8 has dearer road tax diesels i wont touch one i dont do more than 10k miles a year to make it worthwhile and second had too many in the past and there always a pain in the rear it doesnt really matter what you gat they all have issues the 1.8 is basically the mk1 engine an old engine with the same issues as the mk1 the ti vct is a mazda yamaha based engine pretty reliable ive had no engine issues with the car good power good low down torque as i say ide still buy a ti vct over any other model in the range

I think I will look for a 1.8 petrol. not to worried about the tax but if I do go for Ti-VCT

I will see about getting a aftermarket warranty

Why not go for the diesel and have the DPF removed once the warranty is done?

I've just bought a Mazda 3 MPS (as a second car, still got the Focus) and the earlier cars have a reputation for failing VVT. Replacement parts are about £300 from the US, plus fitting. Mazda we doing replacements for about £800 at one point.

I think some of the diesel don't have dpf just a matter of finding the ones that don't

Oh, in that case, none of the 1.8's do.

Personally, I think the 1.6 is the better engine. The 90bhp are usually non-DPF, the 109 are more common with DPF.

what do you think it would cost to have dpf removed and would that mess with

the mot test

I've been quoted anywhere between £350 and £550 to remove the DPF, remap and activate cruise control (already fitted the steering wheel). The remap should give around 145bhp with the DPF removed.

The test for a diesel only measures smoke, which the car should pass. Most methods for removal of the DPF involve smashing out the innards of the DPF, so it looks intact on visual inspection.
