P000A Fault Code

After many months of delay I have at last cleared this defect code from my car. I purchased 2 cam timing sensors from the dealer (about £60 for the two) and the car is now running a lot smoother and not so much power lag in low gears.

Still soundng like a diesel at idle for a petrol car but will see if that improves over time. The other problem of the air con, which could be the air con compressor (?) will have to wait for another day. I just switch off the air con and the noise goes!

Have to save up some more cash before I can pay out for the air con repairs and investigate the diesel sounds at idle.

If it makes the sound while air con on, sounds like it could be do with something engaging on the drive belt...ive heard of an aircon clutch...they supposedly go every now and again.

Thanks, that was also commented by the garage. Will get it checked out at the next service and report back.

Common on the ti vct and its a normal noise due to tge type of compressor usually topping it up cures it if it still sounds like a diesel then the fault wasnt the sensors but the actual cam needs replaced don't be surprised its common the cam pulley wheel is faulty and not advancing or retarding properly i know ive been through it all sadly its a ford job a new cam wheel oil new timing belt kit around £500 minimum sorry

Thanks for the advice again, the fault code is back again :-( will start saving for the more expensive repair and what you have advised is what the mechanic said. With the sensors changed the car does drive better but still with the air con noise and sounding like a diesel at tick over and a rattling noise at start up.

Ho hum.

sorry to hear that hopefully the bill isnt too bad the aircon noise is due to the fact its a vss pump instead of switching on and off it regulates the gas via internal pistons when the gas gets low it gets a bit noisy a simple aircon recharge sorts the problem till it gets low again

will get it regassed soon after I have had the other spring coil replaced then start saving for the cam issues later on..thanks again for the tips.

You are aware the cam will quickly get to the point where tge car gets stuck in limp mode and wont rev or go beyond 40mph trust me it aint fun driving it when it gets to that point

I was not aware of that, how quickly would it be to go to limp mode as the car has been not running smoothly for a few months now. Hope it does not happen suddenly and there are early warnings that is in need of repair, other than the diesel sounding engine at tickover as I need the car every day for work.

I had no warning i went to overtake and mid overtake it went into limp mode theres no way to know how long but the longer its the way it is the more likely it is to happen

The cam is moved forward or back advancing or retarding the timing using high pressure oil the reason it sounds like a diesel and is low on power is its not altering the timing fully eventually it just stops leaving the car in limp mode the diesel noise is the early warning

thanks, I will make a call to the local dealer to get a price to change the camshaft and take a gulp and hope it will be about £500 or so..All being well that will cure the engine woes for now and I will get to enjoy driving the car more :-)

When you had this repairs did you get both cams replaced or was it just the intake cam (p000a)? thanks

Have you had/ are you getting any repairs to your car at the moment? Thanks for the video, helps clear a few pointers for me, now to get the cam replaced I think.

It was the intake cam i believe but they need to tske off tge rocker cover undo the camshaft bolts then remove the timing belt then get to the pulley wheel theres a special timing tool tgats inserted since the timing belts being removed they will insist and you need a new timing kit fitted the high pressure oil feeds cleaned out and alls reassembled the timings then checked on the computer its about 1-2 day job

had the solenoids changed as well as the camshaft sensors which made the car drive a little better but will be getting a quote on monday for the camshaft to be replaced (Intake). Will report back.

Further diagnostic check done today and there is work to be done to the camshaft, sensors etc etc over £500. For the air conditioning noise nothing came up on the diagnostic and they tried to seel me a re-gas of the system. I advised this was done over 6 months ago and there was no problem with the temperature of the air con but they thought it may be leaking somewhere or possibly the compressor clutch which has already been mentioned.

Will be getting the inlet camshaft problem sorted first.

HI Dave. Does this sound anything like what went wrong with yours?

I have a 52 plate focus ST170. EML came on a while ago so had a diagnostic check done. Came up with a timing problem so took it to a timing specialist who put it to TDC and reset the cams. Engine ran a lot better after and thought everything was ok. Next day EML back on. Took it for another diagnostic check and came up with o2 sensor problem so changed the up-flow sensor and EML off. Next day back on again. Yet more diagnostics and came up with the timing problem again. Took it back to the timing guy and he said the VVT cam pulley is faulty and it keeps knocking the timing out. Phoned Ford and they said it probably isnt that. I am pulling my hair out with this one and really need some help.

I have been looking for a VVT cam pulley everywhere and can't find one. Even Ford said they don't make them anymore. Can't even find a second hand one. Even is that is the problem.

PLEASE HEEEEEEEEELLLPP!!!

They are now saying it could be the VVT solenoid. It is making me want to just give up.

Maybe a little but not much. I just put it down to being 13 years old. Do you know if mine has the cam timing sensors as well as the solenoid for the VVT cam pulley?

Mine is a 1.6 2006 115 focus and sounded like a diesel when idle changing the variable valve cam sprockets did the job the indi spoke to Ford who said it could be the valves, sprockets or sensors.luckily I read a lot about the symptoms and told the garage to change the two cam sprockets and it worked.apparently it's a bit of a pain to line up the timing as they advance internally or something.you can't tell if their worn tho you just have to replace them.
