I can't believe after fitting 2.5" exhaust, performance induction, blanked EGR and remapped to 125bhp

I'm getting 61.6MPG

1.6 petrol with 15k miles on the clock does 38mpg locally and 44mpg on a run. And its getting better the more miles I put on it.

  • 2 years later...

I have just drove to Inverurie in Scotland from Grantham Lincolnshire. Light foot 55 to 60 all the way. Covering 456.7 miles and got 61.12 MPG. On the way back Lead foot 80 to 95 all the way. Covering 455.2 miles and got 51.93 MPG which i think is very good it took me 1 hour less to get back home.

56MPG average, the best I got on a run was 73MPG at 70MPH very steady foot and flat road.

33mpg around town. Haven't had any long runs in it yet. It is automatic though so that makes it suffer.

1.8 petrol on a recent run from Grimsby to Falmouth - I filled up at 399.8 miles with another 12 showing on the range counter

About 40mpg - the car was running fairly heavy (all my kit in the boot) and a fair bit of stop-start traffic.

Managed to squeeze about 47l into the tank

Nowhere near enough on my 1.6TDCi... Averaging 55mpg, not good enough for an engine purpose built for efficiency! :(

1.8 petrol zetec, x reg. Average 33mpg in the summer, maybe 30 in winter depending how much I run the heater, its probably 50/50 urban and motorway use, I'm happy with that really given it has 183k on the clock. Somehow got 43mpg out of it on a long run a month back, got the same trip coming up again this month and I want to try and beat it. Best I've had from one tank was about 420miles, think I put about 48 litres back in after that.

I don't have a focus anymore as got a mondeo st220 but my old focus st170 with a twist as it was supercharged aggressive remap pushing 640bhp I was lucky if I got 13mpg

To and from work with a little motorway driving I get between 28-29 possibly 30mpg. On a long run down to Corwall I had 37mpg. So it's about what Ford say it should do. £40 worth of pertol will do about a week and a half which is much better than my previous Discovery. For the same mileage and time I'd to a tank of Diesel, about £125 worth.

Averaging 55mpg for a car that size with the 1.6 engine you can't grumble at that, that is a realistic figure for the car engine. There will be plenty of people who really think the book figures are achievable but they never are in any car.

Without wanting to annoy anyone I think some people are living in cloud cuckoo fantasy land with their figures, most petrol cars will do no where near the MPG that a diesel will unless you drive like a grandma (which in fairness some people do). There are some high claims from a variety of engine types in my opinion and I would like to see evidence to prove actual MPG rather than on board readout's as a lot of people think if the car says a certain figure that it is right, I have never found a car computer to be totally correct.

Just my opinion of course.

I was averaging 42-46MPG in mine with a decent run to work and back, sometimes only 9 miles sometimes more down the motorway, since it has been poorly it has dropped as low as 38MPG.

25  only done ~700 miles so far but not expecting to see much more than that. I'm just happy that's it's doing the same miles to a tank as my Fiesta ST so it's only costing the £10 ish per tank more. Definately worth the extra! :D

Close to 36 mpg in mixed driving in a 2012 1.6 ecoboost 150, even with putting my foot down occasionally!

I've had more mpg from 1.9s and 2.0s!! 1.9 Golfs, Volvo 2.0 estate (same as Focus), even 15 year old 306 estate 2.0 with trailer would do 55mpg! They're all old cars now as well, something modern with a small efficient VNT should be getting at least 60mpg easily with my driving, let alone something built purely for efficiency. The DPF doesn't help, I know my mpg is 1 to 2mpg worse over the tank that I have 2 regens (every other tank has 2 regens due to the mileage covered). And the gearing is poor, it should be getting a lot more mpg at motorway speed than it does but it needed a 6th or longer 5th to do that. Very disappointed when I chose the 1.6 knowing of it's faults and lack of power but expecting it to get decent mpg compared to previous cars I've owned.

As for your 38mpg, you might as well have a petrol! My 1.8VVTi Avensis averaged 40mpg! 1.8 306 averaged 35mpg... Even the GTi6 that was only ever driven in anger averaged 30mpg... No DPF, turbo or motorway straining with any of those. :D

Focus 08 1.8 TDCI 49.5 and rising!

Im driving stupendously economically! low gear change, no heavy acceleration just to squeeze everything i can out of it

2 years on and and since this I have now EGR blanked and added a Pipercross performance filter and carried out a full service myself. Also just had a new clutch and flywheel, dont know if that makes a differance.

Currently sitting at 56.6MPG thats an average of the past two weeks doing 65 on the motorway and not so sensible driving round town.

Im pleased to report im still averaging 51mpg with my 2005 2.0TDCI Saloon Titanium (no engine mods and non DPF model)...nearly 150k on the clock too. Long motorway runs it can achieve high 60s. Always use Shell V+Nitro and every 4-6 months stick a whole bottle of Redex in:-) Daily commute is about 22miles (110miles per week in total) mostly A roads

Is the tank smaller on the Mk3? Even with my poor mpg I do 600 or near enough to a 50 litre tank!
