'02' Mondeo Dead Engine?!

Featured Replies

Hi guys new to the forum,

Looking for some advice really, my mum owns a 02 plate 2l Mondeo zetec and uses it for work etc, now it is run alot but very carefully driven, it hasn't given us any real problems to be honest over the few years we've had it, but the other night she went out to go for groceries and it just wouldn't start

It would turn over and it started once but the noise was terrible, revs all over the place and a funny smell so we turned it off and never touched it until we could get the local garage that we always use and trust to come pick it up and take it down on their van.

They just phoned and said it's dropped a valve and needs a new engine?!

Is this a common thing to happen? like I said as far as I know it hasn't given us any problems, no warning lights or anything, this seems to have just happened?!

Any advice would be much appreciated on what the best course of action is/ what it should cost to fix etc

Cheers guys :(
