06 focus sport has keyless ignition. Fob works door lock ok but found out we don't need fob at all to start engine. If car is unlocked the it can be started by anyone. Could have been like it from new!

Doesn't seem all that safe, on mine the key has to be physically inside the car to work and if the engine is running and the key leaves the car it starts making all sorts of alarm bells.

My 2010 Fiesta was the same, but maybe they changed the behavious some time after yours was built?

I think we had had car for about 4 years before we found out. Lost key fob and I said it the cake starts it has to be in it. Found key in house next day. As you say not very safe.

It's possible another key is in the car hidden away usually for some sort of alarm system... the purpose of it may not have been just for an alarm it could have been used for other things too. How are were you away from the car when tested this? there is a sensor in the boot too it's possible to have the key outside of the car and start it.

Car would be 30 yards away from house. Key inside house and car starts. Not searched for another key in car yet

It has been known in the past for car dealers to leave spare keys in the glove box/ash tray, which in itself isn't that bad when they're stored in a secure dealers premises, but in this instance could have serious consequences, both in the loss of the car and the refusal of the insurers to pay out.

I would make it a priority to search for a spare as soon as possible, if you can't find one, then it needs to be fixed as soon as possible
