Wheel Choice On Titanium Focus 62 Plate?

Hi all

After some advice I've just bought 62 plate focus titanium with app pack and city pack.

This gives me all I need spec wise.

However the standard wheels 16" on the car really put me off. So the dealer has given me 2 options to complete the deal.

17" zetec app pack alloys or 18" 5 spoke titanium upgrade option?

What are best for the car? By the way 17s have Bridgestone Turanza rubber 18s conti sport.

Car comes in 10 days. It's a ford direct car with 8k on it.

18" 5 Spoke , i have them on mine they are really easy to keep clean , and fill the arches nicely , if there is one downside to them , i would say before i changed the front tyres they used to Tram Line a little at low speed , new tyres and no problem.

So the 18s will go on the car with no problems?

Dealer did say he would have to get the car re calibrated due to going from 16s to 17 or 18s is this correct ?

Must admit I am hedging towards the 18s . Need to inspect rubber on them prior to them going on as I'm presuming 2 new 18s rubber will be approx 300/400 fitted . I don't like driving on budget rubber.

I think the change will depend on the difference between the 16's and the 18's , but thats a very quick job for them to do anyway.

Yes i have Mitchelin Pilot Sport 3 on mine and they were over £167 each as an online deal , but most place's were £197 each. :(

Go for the full fat, chunky 18" five spokes. they look the best out of the 3 and the ride is still acceptable on them. Had Michelin PS3 on mine as well and they were pretty good too. Win win!

17" unless your going to get it remapped mate,

Bigger wheels and to the unsprung mass of the car,

This means your take off speed in first gear will be slower etc.

Anything under 100bhp should stick to 17" or lower

It's the 1.6 duraatorq tdci 115 bhp.

Wouldn't a remap invalidate the warranty ?

I personally prefer the 17" alloys on the Focus, the ones I have (16 spoke?) are an absolute pig to clean though.

I specifically chose the 17" alloys as I hated the 45 sidewall lower profile tyres on my Fiesta.

It is personal preference though, 17" will give you a smoother ride, a little less tram lining and a slightly better lock over the 18".

I have the 17 inch Zetec Appearance Pack alloys and they are a pain to keep clean! They look good when they are clean though.

Not sure how the 18 inch ones affect the ride, but the 17's are very comfortable :)

Hi, 18" wheels will mean having to have a steering limiter fitted or the tyres will rub, I would say the car would be unroadworthy if you don't. You will also need to tell your insurance company as larger wheels than the car came fitted with constitutes a modification...

Only if they can tell it has been,

I've had mine done and ford hooked it up to diagnostic system they couldn't even tell it was mapped

Making me a bi unsure of the 18s now if it means all his adjustment .

Don want to ruin the ride of the car?

The dealer should fit the rack limiter as part of fitting the 18s hopefully.

If you opt for them, it might be worth checking that's what they'll do.

I'd mention it to ensure they do because the steering limiter kit only costs around 10-15 pounds

16" tyres are 6.5" wide

18" tyres are 8" wide on the focus anyways,

I'll respond more about remap later as I've to go to work now, I've had the steering limiter kit fitted along with my 18s

My titx estate came with the 18" fitted and I hate them. They fit restricters on the steering rake, turning circle is useless now. Every time I park I curse them If I could I would swop them for standard wheels.

This is the steering limiter kit ( the blue polyurethane rings in the bag)

They fit inside the CV boot on the inside of the wheel hub and prevent the hub from turning in too much on full lock,

The gator clamps supplied seal the CV boot after fitting.

I agree the turning radios is reduced and I have to take wide angles on some occasions but that's how it is lol

A remap will cost you at the most 400 pounds,

They connect to your ecu via the obd port in the drivers foot well and copy a engine map on to your car,

Increasing its performance by 30bhp and if you don't drive it hard,

You will save on fuel economy as result,

Also blanking the egr valve is recommended

And fitting a performance induction filter will all play a part in unlocking engine potential and prolonging engine life.

I've done all of the above aswell as a 2.5" exhaust and currently getting 74.6MPG

I've created a guide on egr blanking the 1.6tdci engine,

As for remap I can't recommend as I'm in ireland mate,

I've also done a guide on fitting a green cotton performance induction filter, the guide includes a discount code to purchase,

As for exhaust I recommend piper 2.5"
