Replace Cam Sensor

Hi all so my car this morning and last week decided not to start turned over fine but would just not fire and coil light flashing. After about 30 mins of trying then leaving it then trying again etc it started. This morning i took it to Kwik fit who pluged it in and diagnosed as cam sensor and wanted to charge me £125 for the liberty of changing it. I now have a new one from a local parts company for £20.

Now what i would lie to know if possible is, is their anything special i need to do in changing this other than remove and replace? I have hunted around for tutorials etc but non on my specific model. some i have read say you have to get engine in top dead centre etc.

Mine is a Ford Focus 2003 1.8 tdci Y reg

Any feedbac/info would be great thanks all

Sorry the garage now says it is the crankshaft sensor. Where is this on a 1.8 dura tech tdci? And do I need the engine in top dead centre to replace this?

Thanks in advance

The crank sensor gets its signal from the flywheel so you will need to look around the gearbox casing/bell housing - probably on the top.

Unbolt and remove it, no special tools or otherwise required

Hi mate!

My car had this exact same problem. I had the AA out and it was actually the camshaft sensor. This sensor sits on top of the rocker cover/camshaft housing (where you put the oil in ;) ). Its simply one bolt and it only costs about £30. Have you had this changed?
