Turvey
Where the rear wiper sweeps when the front wipers are on and reverse gear is engaged. Can this feature be turned off?
jeebowhite
Yep :) If you have the modified elm cable, you can do this with ELM Config.
Mr Singh
why would you want the feature turned off? my mum has a focus saloon and i do wish it had a rear wiper. i have the same feature on my forfour and like it.
jeebowhite
Each to their own Nanak :) some prefer not have wipers at all, and others like to have it :)

Turvey
As Aldoo says, I don't want to remove the wiper function totally, just for it sweep when I want it to ;) I must admit it annoys Mrs Turvey more than it annoys me but it does get annoying. Being an HGV driver personally I use my side mirrors more than the inside rearview one. So modified ELM cable it is then. I see someone selling them ready modded on eBay for £21, might have to wait until the middle of winter when it's raining a lot and Mrs T gets so !Removed! off with it she buys me a cable just to sort it! B) Either that or I'll just pull the fuse and do without it all together :)
MartynS
You can still control it when you want to at the moment right? The auto wipe is just an additional one?
frostman83
I quite like it. Does no harm really.
tommy1340millar
I hate it. I disabled it with the ELM cable. I have a swept dust groove rubbed into the back window from there being a sweep every time reverse was engaged.
slartibartfast
I hate it. I disabled it with the ELM cable. I have a swept dust groove rubbed into the back window from there being a sweep every time reverse was engaged. Why a dust grove? surely the rear wiper only operates when the front wiper is on, so by definition, the rear screen will be wet when the wiper operates. I don't have a dust grove on mine. frostman83
Dust grove when it's wet ?it only come on when the front ones are on. Meaning its raining! Therefore in me eyes its useful.
artscot79
as above the rear only switches on when the front wipers have been used and reverse is selected
tommy1340millar
If one leaves one's wipers in "auto" mode, it happens. It was obviously happening LOOOOONG before I bought the car too!
frostman83
Auto mode? So if there is no rain in auto mode, and auto mode is on, the front wipers wouldn't come on? So neither would the back one ? I'm confused by this whole post and the auto back wiper is an excellent idea and works very well. Wipers on front are on as its raining , I need to reverse, look out the back window and I don't need to fiddle with the rear wiper Stalk as it a already wiping. Mr Singh
i think a simple case of reading the manual will answer the questions
mjt
If one leaves one's wipers in "auto" mode, it happens. It was obviously happening LOOOOONG before I bought the car too! Looking at the above poster's posts they seem to be suggesting that the rear wiper does a sweep on selecting reverse when the wipers are in auto mode irrespective of whether the front wipers are running. Have I got that right? If so that would clearly be abnormal.
jeebowhite
That would be weird, that would suggest though that a sensor somewhere may be malfunctioning, and detecting rain and activating the wiper...?
slartibartfast
I would have thought that if a sensor was malfunctioning, it would also activate the front wipers in the dry, not just the rear one when reverse is selected. I leave my auto wipers on the auto setting all the time, but my rear wiper only activates in reverse if the front ones have been activated by the rain sensor. Very puzzling! jeebowhite
very odd indeed!
tommy1340millar
Just went and re-activated it. If I use position 1, sensitivity about half, no matter whether front has been activated or not - The rear sweeps once when I select reverse. It's been like that since I bought the car 2 years ago, and I've been through a fusebox change 18 months ago, and it's exactly like it's always been. Turned it off again. Aldoo
this is different to what I first thought I too had the dust grove which you have mentioned, I took the fuse out to stop it and eventually removed the wiper (however I understand that's not something which many people would like the thought of) my wiper went off when I put it in reverse if id activated the front wiper at any point in the drive. but are you saying that if you have a drive and don't even flick the front wiper even once, the rear still goes when you select reverse? (ill also add, I only have a sport model so theres no sensors or anything flash) Tom

(ill also add, I only have a sport model so theres no sensors or anything flash) Tom BUT......I had the wiper switch in position 1. I may have used the washers or wipers "during the same drive" exactly the same as how cruise control stays 'on' or 'off' during the one driving session, if that makes sense? Aldoo
don't talk to me about your flashy add-ons!! :P hahaa I think the only way to do it if you want to maintain use of it when it is needed is to use the elm cable - but I really don't know about it mate
