Fault Code P-2002

Hi guys.

My MIL has come on again!

Same code as before P-2002 (Diesel particulate filter efficiency below threshold bank 1).

Now I have only had this car for 6 weeks and it has only done 45K on the clock.

I could take it back to the dealer but something tells me they will just clear the code and say it has been dealt with only for it to return in the near future!

I am also planning to have the DPF internals removed/deleted and remapped to suit so it isn't a problem that I will have to put up with for much longer.

Well, within the next couple of months anyway....

Can anyone shed any light on this particular issue and if so, is it likely to put my car into limp mode which will be a nightmare to be honest and will cost me a fair few quid to sort out (forced regen etc).

I do try to give the car a good blast on the motorway to clear it and I do do regular motorway runs anyway so it shouldn't happen really.

The thing is, my car is a euro 5 emissions version and therefore has a "lifetime" DPF (so it says in the service schedule anyways) with no mention of a filter change in a euro 5 car.

Aany help or suggestions guys?

Mike.

It sounds to me like the EOLYS fluid probably wasnt topped up at 37.5k miles, so its ran dry and the filter is clogged... can you clear the code yourself? it might get you by for now, or if you clear it, then take the car on the motorway, you might be able to do a forced regen!

Hi jeebo.

Because it is a euro 5 DPF, it doesnt have an EOYLS tank......

I can clear the code myself yeah and fortunately, were going away to scarborough for a week in a weeks time so the journey down there "should" be enough to clear it out anyway until I have it removed....

Just hope it lasts that long!

It was the dealer who suggested I have it removed within minutes of going to buy the car (independant garage).

Now this guy knows his stuff. He had numerous classic cars in his unit onr of which was an original Escort RS200 in showroom condition!

My knees went all funny when i saw it and when i saw the sierra saphire cosworth next to it...... couldnt believe my eyes.

This guy and his small team maintain all the cars and within 30 mins i knew that he knew what he was talking about.

Never the less, the problem remains until i pay to have it sorted...... £350 with remap...

Give it a good blast on your way to holiday, keep the rev's high to aid the regeneration process, and hopefully that will keep it clear, but the DPF removal is definately a good way to go.

Yeah, I think I will wait until the engine gets to temp then spend a good 10 minutes doing 70 in 4th and with any luck, it will clear.

Failing that, I will clear it myself with my code reader because its just a matter of weeks until I get the blasted thing whipped out!! :)

One thing I have noticed since the light came on though, the car is much less responsive, stutters in 2nd gear, noticable decrease in instant MPG (I travel the same route every day and know where I get good MPG and where is not so good).

I am losing over 10 MPG in my instant reading and my range has also magically "lost" 20 miles off it!! :(

It was an offer he made to me when I was buying the car.

He said he has a guy who's been doing it years and he would introduce me when i'm ready to have it done.

I am presuming the price is "mates rates" because everywhere ive looked has been at least £500.

With me having it done soon, i'm going to ring him to get more info because I want to know exactly who and where my car is going to and if they are reputable.

When I get an answer, I will post the name of the place.

If its a "mate" who does it then I wony bother!

Want it doing properly and professionally or not at all!

  • 4 years later...

Did this code cause your focus to go into limp mode?  Bringing up an old thread here but i have this code and its limping me.  The cause of my fault is the intercooler pipe has a split in it which comes up off of the T junction metal pipe running into the exhaust and i presume DPF.

I knock the light off and limp disengages but it returns constantly every 15 mins or so, luckily the code clearing app im using (torque) cancels the fault as it comes so it's not much of an issue.  New pipe purchased and hopefully once fitted i can run full boost and clear it out.
