Can acetone be used as a brake cleaner ??

Can acetone be used as a brake cleaner ??

Yes but isopropanol would be better because acetone will eat rubber and your brake lines are rubber aswell as the boots on the caliper.

I wonder does "vanish oxy powder" remove skid marks from the drive way too?

Or

If 45% sulphuric acid would save me sanding the paint of second hand plastic side skirts

use cheap coke on the oil spill

sulphuric acid isnt strong enough, you need a flame thrower!

Sorry I meant 42% sulphuric lol its not possible to get higher sulphuric than 42%

Flame thrower would work, but neighbours may see flames and call fire brigade,

So I'll use methanol ;) burns with an invisible flame

thats fair enough mate,i bought a 5 litre can a while back and have just run out but i have a 5 litre tub of Acetone and thought maybe it would work

so if not brake cleaner what other automotive use could it be good for then, just seems a shame having it sat there doing nothing

Hi Gary,

only reason i said get brake cleaner was that different chemicals react i different ways and I wouldnt want to see you get hurt. I've heard lots of stories where a different product ws used and due to heat/circumstances the person has ended up in hospital with burns or breathing difficulties. Always play it safe.

Whatever you end up using acetone on mate,

Definitely don't put it on any plastics because it will turn plastic white like stained glass,

I use it in work and got a drop on my safety glasses before,

Turned the plastic white inside,

I'd take the acetone out and burn some weeds in the garden or light some fires,

Because it kills plastic and rubber, its not really suitable for the car mate.
